RWD QR swap. The next "Frontier"?
RWD QR swap. The next "Frontier"?
So I've known this for a while and been kicking the idea around. Why has no one tried or even mentioned a RWD QR from the Frontier? So get this: 2.5L QR with 9.5:1 compression. The stock Frontier 5sp tranny is the FS5R30A from the TTZ. Throw on a headgasket and low boost 30R and have a sweet powerband. All of those parts exist from the SE-R crowd. From there, you could add the SE-R Vspec's internals and cams to rev to 7400rpms safely. We're talking about an all-Nissan parts-bin ass kicker. All you'd need is a conversion driveshaft (Mazworx Z32 shaft prob works) a manifold and some off the shelf turbo parts.
Anyone? Who has an S14 shell....?

dooo it! QR makes nice torque. There are a couple shells floating around nissan for sale. The seafoam green one looks pretty nice, and I think Cagedeye cam is selling a base model 5 speed with a motor in it for a reasonable price. Did you give up on the s2k..? lol
hey Ep, your mom called and said you wont do it....
screw an S14 shell.... experiment with a cheaper S13 shell, those can be had for under $500 sometimes, and if, and i say "if" very hesitantly, cause if anyone on here can pull this off, it's you, but if the project fails, then you wont have that extra $$ tied up in a S14 shell.....
good luck with it, and if/when you get it started, keep up all updated...

I really REALLY have considered picking up cagedeyecam's S14, and I have the cash on hand.
I'm doing the S2k for sure. I'm just thinking that someone should do this. The revised QR is a LOT better motor than the older version. Full counter crank, forged rods, better pistons, no balance shafts. Maybe just do that NA with Nismo cams and a header. Then you're looking a better solution for 200whp NA with a chance it'll be streetable.

what do these frontier motors go for?
edit. pricing on carpart.com shows $1k to 1500. Not a bad price.

I do I do! But I want a VH in my S14.
I take it you want an S14 similar to your brothers car?
If I get a 510 soon like I'm hoping I will then this might just be the motor solution I do. If/when I do get the 510 I'll be talking to you about doing an NA version of this for it. I think that would be pretty sweet.
