Nitto NT-05
I've never liked them up till I started reading up on NT01's and I've read nothing but good things with the NT05. Im mostly impressed with the price. The next cheapest tire is the dunlops which are $20 more per tire and the RE01-R's are about $35-40 more.
I would also consider the Khumo Excta XS's but I cant find any decent reviews on the tire yet.
I know AMS is running the NT05's on there Evo time attack car.

turned it around for Khumo in my opinion for front tires
I wasn't disappointed in the 555's either.. Thinking about picking up a set of the XS's when tax-returns come in.
Here's a good thread I saw while cruising the S2000 forums. A good bit of feedback by a track regular on the NT-05's and Direzza Star Specs.
S2000 Forums -> Nitto NT05 & Star Spec track test
...yes I read S2KI now

Good find Chris! I think for the price they are at I'm going to get these instead.
All together the NT-05's are about $80 cheaper then the Star specs when looking at four 255-40-17's
To hell with RT615's

im not overly impressed with them after driving on them a little.
and i still really dont like asymetrical tread patterns, kinda sucks so many people are switching to that.
if the performance is similar, id personally go with star specs, because ill get more life out of them by flipping them on the wheel.
I loved my set, they were sticky, precise, virtualy no side wall flex and easy to tell when I was going to loose the front or back end in a corner. But I found that to really make them work, like all these type of tires you have to drop the pressure and get a decent amount of heat to really get them working correctly. And they were loud as fuck on the highway, and really horrible in the rain.
And the nittos are asymetrical as well.

oh cool, the nittos are directional, didnt know that.
i was thinking of the nt01 i think.
eh, still not a nitto fan, and i dont think the rt165s are really too grippy, i spin right through the 255's on my car.

Charles, who has a coupe with a basically stock SR at 7psi said he would spin his 255 star specs in second gear coming out of some turns at auto-x events.
