Haltech The Platinum Sport 1000 vs old
Haltech The Platinum Sport 1000 vs old
Hey guys, I just got a quick question... I'm about to purchase a stand alone and my original pick was the Haltech E8, but I see they just come out with the new version which is called Haltech The Platinum Sport 1000, the only difference I notice so far is that in the software on the new one I'm loving it..., and the other thing that its connected via USB, how do you connect the old E8?
I'm going to be using this on my sr, so do you think I should save some money and get a used E8 for about $800-$1000 or get this one new for about $1200?

I have NO experience with either but it is my opinion that for something as important as an engine management the extra $200-400 would be WELL worth it! G/L

Way to boost the post count unknown240. We value your feedback!
I've used the E8. It connects via a DB9 Serial cable. I've looked into it and the biggest upgrade for the Platinum is more sequential outputs and better support for modern engine features like VTC. The new software is supposed to be pretty slick, too.
Honestly, I'd look into getting a used Power-FC D-Jetro for cheaper than either of them. Add FC-Edit if you want to use a laptop instead of the Commander. It's a lot more straight forward than a Haltech, and it's specific to the SR so you don't have dumb setup issues.

^ now that is a much better idea even....but when it comes to this type of thing we all know Epstein is smarter than I am

I've played with the new platinum software, and I currently own Epstein's E8, but have to agree with him on this one. Go with the power-fc unless you're really ready to spend a lot of time getting this thing to work 100%. Even the platinum will take a lot more time and effort to get to the streetability of a power-fc.
just a real quick question because I'm bidding on one, do you think $800 for a used one is a good deal? it comes with. thx
