Blackzenki82's Gold Zenki SR build thread.
okay guys i just pulled the clutch and flywheel off..... and yet ANOTHER SURPRISE!!!!!!
FIDANZA 9LB FLYWHEEL FTMFFW!!!!!
all these surprises makes me wonder what may be INSIDE the motor..... Pistons? Rods? stroker crank? lolol
new purchases-
Fidanza replacement friction plate
F1 Stage 3 6 puck sprung clutch (i know it's a cheapo, but i don't have a very big budget...)
Updates!! i got the HKS cams and rocker arm stoppers out of the old SR, and ready for the new one, just sitting in my car port looking all sexy, i got the cheap ass clutch on the way as well as a a new friction surface plate for the Fidanza coming... no new clutch set up in the new SR FTMFW!!
i also finally got the motor paid for on Monday through paypal, Nesar at JDM online wasn't able to run my MasterCard for some reason even though his merchant account was set up, and it shipped out yesterday from Canada, and should be here around Friday...
what's good about JDM online, is that since i've had to wait over a week to get this motor shipped, he said go ahead and use pay pal, but it kinda screws him... how you ask? due to the exchange rate from US to CA money, when he gets paid, it will equal roughly out to $800CDN, and not the $1075USD, but he said he'd do it cause i've been waiting for a while, nice guys over there, and he's throwing in the coil pack cover w/allen bolts for free, so woot woot!!!
i also traded my Ebay cat back for a 5 lug swap (traded mine for a Xbox 360 w/games and all kinds of other stuff), a Zenki hood (you've all seen mine, and how beat it is), a Zenki bumper in perfect condition, and a KA AC compressor... damn good deal you all say right? well it's from a buddy of mine, and he's hooking me up cause he needs a cat back for his swap project but is out of $$$ and is about to get laid off.... so awesome sauce...
also as a teaser, i might be having some staggered Rays Engineering G Game 77Fs on the way, 18x8 +20 up front and 18x9+20 in the rear with BFG tires all around... they are 2pc and forged as well.... look like these...

just imagine them on a Gold S14....

just imagine them on a Gold S14....
another update, KA>SR tranny conversion is now complete, and i have REVERSE now woot woot... now i can back that thang up when i spin out into the infield drifting, cause i spin out A LOT.... i'll let the pics and captions do the rest of the talking....
the beginning, bust SR trans with no reverse....

got the shift fork, bearing, and "back plate" (i dunno what that plate is called), and removed the C clips, which was a pain in the ASS...

SR bell housing is off and old gear box sitting to the side, bell housing ready for the ready for the KA gear box...

B&M baller status.....

KA tranny from the black car, ready for transplant...

FINISHED!!!! had a few problems with some rods on the inside and getting them to line up, so i just stood the tranny up on it's bellhousing on some bricks, and twisted the gear box around and it dropped right in place... wasn't too bad...

got the "back plate" and bearing and shift for in.... used bearing though, will be replacing with a new OEM unit... also swapped the little slave cylinder thing off the KA bell housing and swapped it on the SR as it was in near perfect shape and the SR unit was kinda shot...

AND i now have a full lower harness for my tranny, and all sensors, so AWESOMESAUCE... it's the little things guys, the little things...

call me pig pen, with my messy work area....

this one speaks for itself.... no more double parking, pull through parking spots, or parking way out in the back of a parking lost cause i can't back up with out flintstoning it...

well that's it for now guys, just waiting on the clutch, fidanza friction plate, and the the motor, and i'm almost ready for the install....
it was a greddy, fixed with JB weld... hold boost, tested it, just looks like ****...
now for the gold, or shall i say pink.... ballers only.....
Neon pink SR tranny FTMFW!!!!!!!

don;t hate cause you didn't think of it first.... neon *****es...... neon....
if anyone ever works on my car but me, when it goes up the lift/over the pit, the tech/mechanic is gonna ge like WTF?!?!?!?
so being the person that i am, always rushing ****, when i attached the SR bell housing to the KA trans, i moved one of the gear selector "rods" and so the only gears i had were 5th and reverse.... UGH.... so i tore it all back down, used the old SR gear box to figure it out (who cares if i **** that one up).... turns out there's three gear selector "rods" and they each have three settings.. in, middle, out.. i figured, after some "rod" moving, that if there's the wrong combination, it wouldn't go into a particular gear... put them all in "middle" and boo yah, all gears shift smoothly.... just a thought for any of you doing the same thing, and think you screwed up.... just a tip!!!!
i even checked the SR gear box to see if thats why reverse didn't work in it... nope, somthing else is ****ed up with that...
now i have to repaint the damn tranny... cause now it has greasy hand and finger prints all over it... DO WORK!!!

well guys, did more work today, i'll let the pics and captions take it away....
here's the engine bay AFTER i cleaned it, i know, it doesn't look like much, but the car is a POS and a lot of these are stains, i would paint it, but why? it's going to be a my DD/drift beater... 4 cans of engine degreaser and 2 scrubbers later....

so i sourced all the AC stiff from the black car, cause well, i live in Florida and it gets HOT here.... plus, an SR with AC and PS? FTW!!!
AC radiator/condenser

Rear AC line ran, even with that strange weighted plate... also, got the perfect condition PS reservoir and GReddy EBC mounted.. PS reservoir that came with the car was JUNK!!

"cleaned" my Koyo radiator... doesn't look like it but it's actually 10x better...i'll be bending back some of the fins as well... improve the flow of air and all...

good little shot of my HKS step 1 cams and GReddy RAS...

so here we have a shot of the fan relay wire cut, and was taped up... original owner had the flex-a-lite fans wired directly to the fuse box, so i'll be using the relay, and the S14 KA single radiator fan (flex-a-lite has only one working fan anyways..), i sourced the connector from the black car as well

FIXED!!!

also, the previous owner did some weird **** to the driver side headlight plug, and i once again, sourced the perfect one off the black car... before the repair, the dirver side headlight would be dim, due to a bad connection.... no more!!!
burnt plug..

black car plug FTW!!!

and fixed.... PROPERLY... the previous owner did it with no solder, just electrical tape..

well that's all for now guys.... i pulled the front bumper off to see if i could knock some **** around on the core support to get the driver side headlight to align right, and got lazy, came in side, and now here i am typing this....
next on the list (might get to today)-
passenger side Tension Rod bracket
Z32 fuel filter
go pick up new hood and front bumper and install
put in inner fender linings from black car into gold car
get driver side of the trunk to close properly (car was rear ended, previous owner said a tree fell on it... if i see him again, he's getting punched in the face with no warning) ... plus the black doors are in PERFECT condition, and the golds are kinda dinged up...
swap the whole driver and passenger doors off the black car and ignition switch as well (original key is so worn, it can't be recut, and i have to jiggle the door locks for like 10 seconds to get it to unlock... PITA)
a few other little loose ends to tie up before motor gets here and some of the parts i ordered come rolling in....
so i rounded up some parts, and my fidanza friction plate came in.... you guys know how i was worried that it was a spec flywheel and not a fidanza, and that the friction plate i ordered wasn't going to fit... well it lines up PERFECT, even came with all new hardware for install... awesomesauce...
new friction plate, w/old one.....

truck full of parts, and FREE parts... i have another truckload to grab... as for whats here....
S14 Zenki hood (some dings, but nothing major... easy fixes)
S14 Zenki front bumper MINT
S14 bumper reinforcement (need to fix the junk job on mine)
CLEAN fuze box cover
OEM AC fan (one one fan working on flex-a-lites anyways, and bolt to factory location on Koyo)
random misc nuts and bolts i need to finish/tie up loose ends.....

and for those who haven't seen it.... this is also coming in the mail..... DOPE!!!!!

more updates on installing this ****e coming soon... tomorrow is a big DO WORK day.... my clutch, should be coming in the mail tomorrow, so big big tranny day as well....

well guys, got more work done today.... getting **** done FAST.... once again, pics and captions.....
first thing was getting the replacement bumper reinforcement on... no pics of that but it took me about 45 minutes of beating the **** out of the frame on the driver side to get this thing to fit and work right but i finally got it on... here's my buddy EZ cutting the notch out for the 4" FMIC...

end result... the drive side isn't sagging... that's loose frame right there... got it fixed though....

here i am, grinding down so extra space for the FMIC... lovely sparks...

just a pre install mock up of the FMIC, and EZ throwing up his deuces... finally the bumper bracket lines up perfectly with both of the fender bolt locations... i can have a grill again!!! i completely reinstalled the FMIC the PROPER way... custom fabbed some brackets, drilled like 23489623498723 holes, and now that ***** isn't going anywhere....

another mock up of the front end... i know, different colors=FAIL, but appearance isn't high on the list right now.... notice how the headlights finally sit nice and in place like they're supposed to now? a 3lb sledge is my friend.... cut out all the stuff to fit the FMIC from the bumper.. cut myself pretty good too....

all my stuff came in the mail today, except my polished valve cover....
APEXi SUPERINTAKE filter and APEXi MAF adapter...

my clutch stuff also came in today.... F1 stage 3 pressure plate, ACT un sprung 6 puck disk, and i installed the new friction plate on the Fidanza flywheel... also came with new pilot bushing, throwout bearing, and alignment tool...

another thing i got knocked out today, was the cracked tension rod bracket... it was cracked, and soft as cotton so i sourced it from the black car, as well as the "like new" tension rod from the black car, and installed all that.... talk about a pain in the ass... replacing simple parts on a car with front end frame damage is a pain in the ass..... was too busy doing it to take pics though, sorry guys....
things i've still gotta do before motor gets here (estimated arrival date 1/5/09)
put the hood on, drill holes for hood pins (factory bracket and mount is DONE, remember core support is F'd up..)
fully secure front bumper
reinstall all front lights and wires
almost there guys....
and this happened a day before i got my motor...
thanks doughboy, and sorry i've been away for a while, i HAVE NOT been out having fun..
for all you guys who don't know, i violated my probation by violating the restrictions of my business only license when i bought this gold car on the way driving it home, i think i told y'all about that a while back when i first bought it....... sucks.... and i got arrested for violating my probation, just got out of my 24 day vacation in the Alachua County Jail... like less than 3-4 hours ago...
I'm now under 2 years house arrest, with a potential to downgrade to regular probation after one year if no violations... yes it sucks, no i can't drive (state of Florida took my hardship away), till April of 2010 (revoked)
BUT HAVE NO FEAR!!!!! i have recieved my new motor, and i WILL be proceding with this build... after i get the motor in, and get the car running... a few test pulls with someone else driving, i'm going to tear THE WHOLE CAR DOWN to the bare frame, and building the sickest damn 240 in the southeast over the next year and half... motor goes in this weekend, so stay tuned!!!!
well guys, first update in 24 days, and within 24 hours of getting home from my vacation at the alachua county jail....
like always here's the pics and captions...
here's a shot of the "new" motor, my long block from JDM online... a few discrepancies but nothing major...

the old motor, polished VC sitting on top to make it look pretty...

the motors, side by side, ready for parts transplants.... time to DO MORE WORK!!!

cleaned and transferred the pulleys and alternator...

there's some caramelized oil in the head, nothing major.... polished VC FTW!!!

gotta do some work back here... gotta get the pilot bushing out, modify the coolant hoses so i can have heat in my car...clean up unneeded brackets etc..

no i don't have the luxury of a motor stand, so i leaned it over on the intake plenum... when i had it on the other side for the oil PSI sending unit, oil leaked out all over my carport... damn shippers, thought they had to drain that out for hazmat reasons...

getting this on was a bit of a PITA (afro engineered oil lines etc)... but she's there, and sexy.... my bad ass T28...

FINISHED!!!!! woot woot... got EVERYTHING swapped over, all accesories, no cams or RAS yet, cause i'll be pulling it back out after they take my license and tearing it all down... i just want to drive it a few days... now all it needs is to bolt the tranny up, drop it in the car, hook up the harness and fire it up... and fluids of course....

just an after shot to kinda match the one up top...

not much guys, but it's coming along... motor will be going in either tomorrow or Sunday.... it WILL be on the road by Monday... i have till the 9th of this month till i loose my license and i will be driving it before it's gone.... and i'll tell you, working on this after 24 days in jail was AWESOME.... my hands got too soft in there.... not enough grease under my nails....
stay tuned guys.....

well another update, got all my clutch stuff on, then my back started hurting (being laid up for 24 days in the jail with no physical activity will make your endurance go to ****), i also cleared out 2/3 of my back yard which hasn't been maintained in over 4 years, overgrown and like a jungle on the real... i think i heard Tarzan back there....
all i did was the clutch, which was kind of a pain in the ass with the flywheel bolts... all i had was a ratchet wrench to get the 8 bolts on and it didn't want to seat right till the very end... at least now all i have to do is bolt the tranny up, install fuel rail, coil packs and she's ready to be dropped in the car tomorrow...
anyways, on with pics and captions...
everything ready, bearing puller, ACT 6 puck unsprung clutch, fidanza flywheel, and F1 pressure plate...

got the flywheel on, man it was a pain in the ass.... i wish i had more tools, it would have been a breeze then... took me almost 20-25 minutes to get it tightened down right...

ACT 6 puck unsprung FTMFW!!!! get your left leg strong like bull for doriftos... gotz more grip than my lady on my mushroom tip son....

cheap busted ass F1 pressure plate... lets hope it's up to par with the ACT and the Fidanza....

not much, but it's all downhill from here..... motor goes in tomorrow... hopefully get a start up by night fall.....
well guys, i've done massive amounts of work today.....
pics and captions.... AND START UP VIDEO!!! as bad as the start up was... will fill in at the end....
starting for the day.... first step, tranny.... wasn't too too bad to put on... could have been worse....

so i decided to rock the rocker arm stoppers, no value on engine insurance...

for ****s and giggles, i want to show you guys the difference in my heads...
here's the "new" motor....

here's the head on the old motor.... AMAZING, all new hardware, the timing chain guides on the tensioners don't even have scrape marks from the chain yet, and it seemingly has all new hardware... will let y'all know bout this later..

everything's on, looking good....

up up and away!!! lot easier to work on the smaller things when it's in the air like this.....

my neighbors must LOVE me.....

getting her on in there.... my buddy Ryan on the left.... no replacement for awesome friends.... we worked right on through the super bowl and he didn't care.... "gotta do work and get it in, i came here to see this car run and wont leave till i do".... he left at 2:30am....

DO WORK!!!

motors in... all that's left at this point is the grounds, and the hotpipe, intake, and fluids....

ran out of light, so i put the hoist, and my singe halogen lamp to work.... awesome... lemons guys.... lemons....

come on..... **** is HOT....

FINISHED!!!!! all that's left is start up!!!

and for those who are interested, here's the youtube link for the video.....
YouTube - first start up...
motor sounds SICK, and as unhealthy... and no, thats not an exhaust leak.....hence what i was saying earlier about the CLEAN head on the old motor.... i'll be yoking the motor back out on Tuesday, and swapping the good clean head on it, and hell while it's out, i'll go ahead and drop the HKS cams in there.... new chain, tensioners, freshly machined, no scoring on the cam journals.... can't go wrong with it....
i bought this motor from JDM online, and so far, besides customer service, i'm not very pleased with it, to say the least....
more work on Tuesday..... stay tuned....

well guys, i've done massive amounts of work today.....
pics and captions....

YouTube - first start up...
motor sounds SICK, and as unhealthy... and no, thats not an exhaust leak.....hence what i was saying earlier about the CLEAN head on the old motor.... i'll be yoking the motor back out on Tuesday, and swapping the good clean head on it, and hell while it's out, i'll go ahead and drop the HKS cams in there.... new chain, tensioners, freshly machined, no scoring on the cam journals.... can't go wrong with it....
i bought this motor from JDM online, and so far, besides customer service, i'm not very pleased with it, to say the least....
more work on Tuesday..... stay tuned....
alrighty guys, problem solved with the HORRIBLE sound.... i was doing some research, starting with the fact i had ZERO oil pressure, and came to the conclusion that the oil pans dent might be the culprit... it was stated that the oil pickup is only like 1mm from the pan, so i dropped the pan and viola!!! you could see where the pickup was hitting the pan, and restricting oil flow.... so i to the pan, beat the **** out of it, and even extended the the part under the pickup out a bit, reinstalled, filled with oil and went to start.... upon start up i had the rattle, but for only 3-4 seconds, followed by what sounded like the timing chain rattle on a KA... after a few moments of run time, that went away AWESOME!!!
so now all i'm dealing with is some minor belt squeal and a leaky injector on Cyl#1, it's causing a slight misfire at idle, and a performance restriction throughout the power band i'm sure... oh yeah, and my engine overheats in like 4-5 minutes... i checked the coolant level, full.... ran it for a while with the cap off, and it wasn't moving, overflowing just a tad, but nothing like it should..... my theory on that is the motor may have sat for a while, causing the thermostat to stick, and no coolant is flowing through.... no biggie, just pull the housing off and remove it....
well, without further adieu, the start up video, short and sweet.....
YouTube - SR fixed.....
few things on the "to do" list for tomorrow
diagnose overheating problem
diagnose injector prob, might just be an o-ring
install body parts.... hood, bumper, lights etc
install oil catch can
tighten belts
bleed clutch.... VERY soft.. haven't driven it yet though...
put in some dexcool.... just water in it now....
and finally, the test drive...
the To Do list.... what i got done, and what i didn't.... more tomorrow though... i'll take some driving footage etc....
diagnose overheating problem........................................... ..stuck thermostat added OEM electric fan
diagnose injector prob, might just be an o-ring.........................didn't get to it
install body parts.... hood, bumper, lights etc..........................everything but the hood is on
install oil catch can............................................... ...........got it on, easy stuffz
tighten belts............................................. .....................done but still squeals
bleed clutch.... VERY soft.. haven't driven it yet though..............didn't get to it
put in some dexcool.... just water in it now..............................gotta get some green stuff
and finally, the test drive............................................. ......no clutch yet!!! ARG!!!
just a little shot of my redneck 240.... i might have to get it painted sooner than i thought.... all the mustangs will wonder how this raggedy looking 240 stomped a mudhole in their ass

thats the same guide i used... even printed it out, awesomesauce for taking the time to find it and post it...
i know what i did wrong, i used that image you posted, but the gear lengths are longer than what it shows there so the gear on the CAS spins too far to the right to match whats on that image... i had a buddy of mine come over and tell me exactly what to do..
so tomorrow, sometime i'll be doing that... all that's left is bypassing the S14 clutch dampener, bending my clutch hard line ever so gently to screw into my slave cyl line and bleed it and i'm ready to drop the car off the jack stands for the first time in two months and take it for a spin!!!! woot woot...
still having filter location problems though, i got a T28 with a T25 inlet elbow that faces straight down to the ground, with a pepboys 90* coming out of that to angle it back up with a 10" peice of flex pipe running to the APEXi super intake and elbow adapter... see how it's sticking up like that? hahahah

get that situated and i can get my fancy emerald green hood on my gold car...
if it will only connect with the key in the "on" position, it might be a signal wire.... i have no idea really, just throwing that out there... i was try to rewire it, per instructions, and if it still doesn't work, it might be a malfunction in the EMS itself... but once again, i can't really tell you for sure...
today is the day though guys... going to restab my CAS, bypass the clutch dampener and take it out for a drive.... lets see how it rolls...
well guys.... done and more done.... fixed timing, for the most part, got it all put together, bypassed the clutch dampener and pulled it out of the car port!!!! WOOOT WOOTT!! i even got some lame video of the car moving under it's own power... not lame to me though... been a long time coming for me, and my first motor swap....
first shot out the car port!!

still got some work to do, clean up the wiring, figure out my intake situation (mostly a lack of tools and the wrong inlet for my T2
, gotta get the hood on but i need a big enough drill bit for the hood pin holes... and just some touching up... oh, and maybe get the polished valve cover back on... i might sell/trade it though...

nice lookin' ass!!

another good shot of my WORKING vlsd...

other than that, she's all done!! just needs some minor bodywork and some paint... game plan might change on that though... i might pull this motor out, put a KA in and sell it and use the money from the sale to get a CLEAN, accident free rolling shell or blown motor'd S14, so that way, when i go to put aero on, i wont have to sweat the frame damage up front... it was a PITA just to get the OEM stuff on the front...
well i was going to have the roll out video, but youtube is being an ass... i'll get it up later!!
well guys, been driving it for a few days.... having some issues with my idle, and bogging over4k (no not maf sensor, just bad settings on SAFC2)... but i think i got it all worked out... i just disconnected the MAF wires off the SAFC and ran it back to the ECU like it should be, so no more weird bogging... i got my timing set, now just have to set the TPS to .45V and i'm good to go as far as idle, and revving....
i had a boost leak, i wasn't pushing more than 4lbs, thought it was my hose clamps, wrong, it was a lack there of... i had put one of those clear with the braided hoses on the cold pipe to the IACV and never put clamps on it. i figured at the time, if it was such a pain in the ass to get it on (outside of the hose was the same diameter as the pipe so i had to stretch it), that i wouldn't get any leaks....WRONG... as some of you may know, those hoses conform to the shape and get hard, and well, boost was leaking out of that... throw a couple clamps on, and BOOM!! back to 10lbs!!!!
other than that, i think my feul delivery/idle revving probs are gone... not sure if i have a leaky injector anymore, cause my buddys SR makes the same noise as the fuel pump primes.... so we'll see once i get my TPS adjusted correctly....
oh, and my license is gone as of tomorrow, so i have so schedule another hearing at the office of administrative reviews (hardship/business license office), on the tenth.... so wish me luck on tuesday...
if i lose my license, i've been entertaining the thought of finishing the car, and selling it.... who knows.....
sorry for the novel and lack of pictures....
finally got my stainless turbo dump pipe.... now no more exhaust leak and ugly rusty elbow!!!
goes on tomorrow morning...

well guys, got the Megan elbow on, minus the gasket that goes to the DP... will get that on soon, as well as replace all other exhaust gaskets...
if i don't sell or trade my HKS 264 cams within a week or two, i'll be dropping them in this motor for MOAR POWARZ...
i also swapped in my NGK R plugs (BKN5R or something like that), and gapped them correctly... car purrrrss now, still a bit of sputter at idle... kinda like what my KA had...
i had a serious problem earlier, while driving i noticed on my Auto Meter Cobalt Oil PSI gauge (senseless plug on awesomeness), that my PSI was dropping.... 2 blocks from my house it was at 5psi, cut the motor off and coasted in... i get home and i just see oil draining out of the motor... the drain plug came out, all that drained out was about 1/3 of a quart...Mobil 1 FTW!!!!... I'm damn sure i had it in tight... guess not tight enough... refilled with new Mobil 1 10w30 and with new oil, runs a.lot better.... i still need to flush it though, as there's a lot of caramelized oil in the head and whatnot... thank god for the oil PSI gauge or i could have ran my motor slap out of oil and done some SERIOUS damage...
here's a few shots, got my strut bar on, cleaned up the bay a bit... i know i change valve covers like everyday, one day it's black, next day it's polished, and now it's blue.... life's good when ya got three to choose from... here we go...ALMOST done...

that JDM OEM strut bar is the SEKZ!!

and as always, more updates as they come along....
