just swapped a 96 s14 motor in a s13.heres the info
Ok im making this thread because i was doing a 96 s14 motor and trans swap into a 91 s13 and was looking for the information on how to do it.But could not find any straight answers some said to swap out intake manifolds/use the obd2 harness and ECU and to cut and splice the harness into the s13 body harness. I was like WTF im deffantly not going to cut up my good harness and hope that i get all of the wires to where they have to go and dont want to swap out intake manis because i would have to go to the junk yard or some where to buy one for alot of money that i dont have.
What you will need to pull out the old motor that is blown up or is a single cam.
Engine lift
Socket sizes from 8-19.. 3/8 or 1/2inch
Rachets 3/8 and 1/2inch
Extensions
Wrenches sizes from 8-19 will do
Jack/jack stands
Pliers/needle nose
Wd40/pb blaster

Ok well let me start from pulling the old motor out.
first off drain all the fulids oil, tranny, coolant.then take off the hole air box to make some room. Then take off the upper and lower radiator hoses take the 2 size 10 bolts out for the radiators support then take out the radiator then put the bolts back in the same place so that you dont lose any of them. disconnect the battery cables then take out the battery. Now start to take off the wiring harness from the motor and trans for the trans wiring you need to get under the car. so after you take off the harness you can either pull it from the fire wall out or just toss it over the side of the fender like what i did.Ok now take off the power steering pump off from the mount its on. same with the AC commpressor now make the power steering lines and pump fit where the air box should be same with the AC.Now unbolt the exhaust from the manifold or the down pipe mine was welded so i took it from the manifold it was 3 size 14 nuts. then take out the shifter i removed the clamp i used a skinny flat head screw driver and a small philips after you get that top clamp just make sure you are in neutral and then pull straight out. then put the shifter and the clamp some where you wont lose it. then go back under the car and take off the drive shaft from the rear end. its 4 size 14 bolts and nuts you will need 2 size 14 wrenches. drop that end then take off the driveshaft mount its 2 size 17 bolts then pull out the drive shaft. then put the mount back on so you dont lose it or the bolts. And take out the 4 bolts for the tranny mount watch out the tranny will move down like 4-5 inches put the bolts back up there in the holes so you dont lose them. take off the slave clyinder. then take the heater hoses from the fire wall off.Now use a ratchet and size 14 to take off the motor mount nuts there is 1 on each side of the motor now put those nuts som where safe.now get your engine lift ready hook up the chain to the intake mani and the exhaust mani and use ur friend to help you not slam the motor into the core support or the AC condensor.
Now that the motor is out clean the engine bay of all the oils leak build ups and power steering leaks, dirt and grime.
Ok now get your new s14 motor and trans. get a new clutch kit, oil,oil filter, trans fluid 75W90 or 80W90 GL-4 do not use just GL-5 it eats your tranny up in side you can use GL-3, GL-4 and GL-5 mix just not plain GL-5. spark plugs/wires,water pump, valvecover gasket, rearmain seal.
I say drop the oil pan and clean it to get all the sludge out and look around in there. replace the clutch and rear main seal the seal is cheap and easy the repalce its like $14.
Put the tranny back on. now you are going to need a 91-94 trottle body the s14 has an obd2 sensor on it that is not inter changable and does not plug in. the trottle body is an easy swap 4 bolts that are hex head. Now swap out the 2 senors that are in front of the inke mani by the thermostat they are the temp and some other one that i dont know wht its called lol.
swap out the speed sensor on the transmisson to an s13 speed-o,91-94 dizzy,91-94 02 sensor..Now start to put the motor in again same as it came out its just going to be harder to line it up to the mounts.then mount the tranny mount and driveshaft and the drivshaftmount. after you do all that hook up the heater hoses. Then start to put the radiator in and the air box after you bolt you power steering pump back on. ohh and swap out you ac mounting brackets from your s13 dual cam the brackets are different then put the AC back on. Now you need to plug in the wiring harness to the motor and trans now you will have some clips that don't get plugged in cuz you are using an obd0 harness on an obd2 motor.obd2 motors just have more clips and a few differant sensors.
so the onlything that you had to do to make it work was the
91-94 trottle body with the sensor TPS
91-94 2 sensors up front by the thermostat
91-94 02 sensor 95 up has diff clip
AC bracket
longer heater hoses
s13 speed-o
91-94 alternator
91-94 power steering pump.s14 has more psi no good for your rack in pinon
91-94 distributer s14 has internal coil and diff clips
Now that should be it and this is using a 91-94 engine harness with a 5speed trans harness and a 91-94 ECU.
If you did everything right it should fire right up if not double check and check for fuel, spark and that it is set to top dead center.
if i left anything out feel free to add... hopes this helps some people doing this swap.

are people this serious? can you NOT look at something and tell that its exactly the same fucking thing at its core?
same bottom end
essentially the same head
same overall everything.
just pretend its a damned S13 motor.
you use
S13 exhaust manifold
S13 wiring harness and ecu
if its a 95 motor, then you dont do shit with the TPS bc its the same.
if its a 96+, you either put an S13 throttle body on it, or put the S14 TPS plug onto the S13 harness.
i dont understand why everyone has such issues with this "swap". its the same damned motor.
throw the S13 dist in it if you want.
or use the S14 dist and just convert the S13 harness accordingly.
then just use the single wire temp sensor from the S13 or the gauge wont work correctly.
in locking this.
