300,000+ miles of faithful service and...
...Ole Smokey the KA is officially dying. My smoking issue on the green car has officially become unbearable. Instead of just smoking after it's been sitting at a light for a few minutes, it belches out smoke whenever it's free revved. I know the guides are beyond shot and after an awesome compression check last night, I think the rings are probably gone too (110-120psi across the board).
Guess I'll nurse it until it gives birth if I can stand getting high on oil fumes for much longer.
The only upside is that I finally fixed the automatic on the coupe. One unplugged RPM sensor and it no longer sticks in first gear. Yippee!

That blows.
When my car was auto it would get stuck in 1st or 2nd randomly all the time. To fix it I'd have to turn the car off in D and then put it in P and then restart it and it would be fine lol. I wonder if it was the same problem.

Probably. For some reason, the RPM sensor which can/will/does override what the pre-programmed TCU does as it (RPM sensor) goes bad. I simply unplugged the sensor and it is flawless. I'm unsure as to what the RPM sensor does (aside from going bad and making the car stick in one gear) but I am hoping that it doesn't affect line pressure (ie, ramping up line pressure for more firm shifts at higher RPMs). Time will tell I suppose.

Well, I'm picking up another hatch tonight with a shot automatic. The rest of the car is mint and it drives awesome (A/C FTW). What I planned on doing was a 5 speed swap to the new car, sell it and put that money into the greenie along with some boost. Probably won't be sticking with a KA, might go RBoatanchor.
