Well this sucks...
im glad matt is posting again.
my take on it is, greddy was already having financial problems, brought on by whatever, and knockoffs cutting into their profits. so, they have a half baked idea, and bring out the m-spec intercoolers.
good and bad, sure, more people will buy them, and people that would have bought a knockoff might spend the extra 50$ for the greddy name.
but, in my opinion, it cheapens the entire name.
why spend the 50$ more for a greddy when you get some boop shit thats the same for 50$ less? also, why buy a 800$ r-spl,. when you can buy an mspec for over half, and still impress faggots in parking lots?
notice, hks, arc, and some other high end companies are still going?
its because they cater to a different crowd.
sure, greddy isnt totally shitty, but for the price of their stuff new, id buy something else. only reason any greddy part is on my car is because i bought used and cheap.

Grow the hell up people. Mattback, keep your shit talking off of my forum. The last thing we need is more people throwing decent topics into a tailspin.
Greddy did this to themselves. You start shifting away from hard parts like headgaskets, fasteners, and turbo kits to hock friggin catch cans... no wonder after only being in a slowdown for 6 months they go belly up. You think your main market of McDonalds employees can buy your shiftknobs when they're trying to afford gas? The knock-offs don't help, but that honestly shouldn't matter to a company with Greddy's history. The most complicated parts that China are knocking off are intake manifolds, and they suck at it. All the other parts are stupid "lifestyle" parts, not their core go-fast parts. Shame on them for buying into that crap. This reeks of mis-management, only amplified by the marketplace and economy.

Incorrect, china actually knocked off an entire honda accord, and a honda cbr motorcycle. You just dont see them here because they arent federal legal to drive in the US.

China ripped off the smart car too:

I've been to China several times for manufacturing support (engineering side). I work in the consumer industry and I've seen the copies that they rip off. I even know how to get to the SAMLUNG factory from HK.
No doubt they copy the hell out of things. Scary copies. The BMW X5 copy is the best!
This doesn't surprise me at all! The first signs were when they went direct with every shop and skipped over the distributor and sold to the distributors accounts directly. I watched this happen first had at MCD. The other sign is when they started dumping the prices to move product out of the warehouse. It's great for the end consumer but ruins the brand and their rep.

back on topic, it sucks that greddy is going under (for now). but chris (epstein) got it right, they tried to push BOVs and catch cans too much, and lost their clientele who were buying more hardcore parts.
