I need some mechanical help.

My daily driver is having revving and stuttering problems when driving long distances.

Its a 95 200sx with the 1.6L engine with 202,000 miles on the clock. Everything was running fine until yesterday. I live a good 40 miles from work. When I got within 2 miles from my job I noticed the car was having problems and would not rev past 3500 rpms. When I left work everything was fine. Then I got about 2 miles from home and the same thing happened.

I'm about 70% sure its the catalytic converter.

Any suggestions before I put any more money into this thing.

thats not the symptoms of a bad cat
dose it stick of egg ?

 

You should be getting a check engine light. Pull the codes. If you are not getting a light, check your MAF. I don't have any experience with the GA motors, but that is where I would start with a FWD SR.

 

if you think it's the cat, unbolt it and see.


to the guy saying it's not symptoms of a bad cat, that's exactly what my friend's truck did when his cat was clogged up with carbon.

 

Just got back from auto zone. Well barely. Its down to 1500 rpms with is 30mph in 5th gear. I'm sure I pissed of alot of drivers.

Anyways got a PO 100 and P0400 code. I was told its MAF circuit failure and EGR flow valve.

Looking at over $300 in parts.

Do some searching on that site to see if it's something simple like regrounding your MAF or replacing a sensor.
