My buddy has a black top sr20 in his s13. Well he rode out on it for a while w/o changing the fuel pump to a bigger walbro and he had an air leak from his intake mani. Now his car shuts down all the time and cuts out. It wont get into boost and it blows out black smoke like crazy. And the car runs crazy rich. I was wondering what could cause this problem? bad maf sensor, ecu, bad turbo?

 

He should give it to me and ride the bus instead. Sounds like he has no idea what he's doing (aside from ruining a car).

 

if the maf was bad, it would have a sputter type idle and wouldnt be able to get into higher rpms.

 

i agree i told him not to get on it and drive it til u get everything right but he doesnt listen. lol which is why its in my driveway now

 

It does idle really rough, but i was thinking thats bc of the airleak. But when you try to get on it it will sputter and seem like its cutting out. it wont get into boost anymore neither. Did i mention this thing is running pig rich?

 

its a boost leak/vacuum leak.
if you know it has an air leak how about uhhhhh fixing it?

 

if the idle falls and kills when he puts in the clutch i would say its most likely an air leak. See if a coil pack went out with an inline spark plug checker. Sounds like its just shooting gas and not burning it then throwing it out the exhaust. Check the vacuum lines and the timing i guess if the plugs, coilpack, and spark is good
