Hardbody Trans Question For The Nissan Gods
Hey guys I have a 96 Hardbody 4cyl 2wd. My tranny went nuts and decided to turn into a self contained blender of steel. My question is can I put a 240sx tranny in the truck? If so what year mods etc. I have researched this before posting with no luck. I appreciate the help guys/gals...
Yes you can, I did it to my truck. You need to use the 240 flywheel and clutch assy also. I have a spare 240 flyweel if needed, but the shifter is going to sit farther back and you will either need to vut the bench seat to clear the shifter or get bucket seats. It bolts on and even uses the stock transmission mount location. The driveshaft will need to be shortened, the front shaft needs to be shortened 3" so the carrier bearing will be in the stock position and another 4" out of the rear shaft if its a regular cab and not extended cab. Heres a pic of the inside of my truck, note the shifter location

Actually, you might be able to get away with using the truck bellhousing on the 240 tranny so the shifter doesnt sit to far back if thats what you are looking for. But dont quote me on that, I'll check the spare trans I have in the garage tomorrow and let you know.

I dont know about changine the tailshaft housings, I actually wanted the shifter location that it has now cause its alot closer and feels better. But yea, your going to have to measure for your driveshaft length. Take apart the driveshaft, and put in the front shaft and measure where it needs to be cut for the carrier bearing to sit in its stock location and then measure again from the ouput shaft to the axle flange for the driveshaft and calculate what needs to be cut for the rear shaft.

This issue has been kicking my @$$ for some time. I get different answers. Glad to hear input from someone that has done it. So if I use my bell housing do i still need to modify the front shaft?
