Default car is overheating/ possible blown head gasket?

I have replaced the water pump and thermostat. My car has a serious loss of power also and it will spike 210 when crusing normal and 240 when I hit the interstate. I have a megan racing temp gauge. The weird thing is when I have my fans on(toggle switch) untill my car reaches 240 degrese And turn it off my temp IMMIDEATLY goes down 40 degrese. so Im wondering if their is an electrical issue their. The power is wired to my ignition which also has a power from my megan tach hooked up on the same wire. So im wondering with the overheating and loss of power if the head gasket might be blown?

read the overheating thread, and do the same thing i posted in there.

also, i hardly think its a coincidence that everyone that posts an overheating problem on this board has an electric fan.

I am pretty sure its a blown head gasket or an electrical issue. I put the clutch fan back on right now, Now reads 200 when crusing and will drop to 175-190 when i turn my electric fans off when i hit 200-210. i am 2 stpes ahead on this heating issue so to say. Im not at squar one becasue that was replacing the therm/water pump and thats done. I am at new radiator/head gasket and more of a bigger possible problem is electrical issues like I stated with elec fan on and off effecting temp reading so dramaticly.

Clutch fan helped with over heating issue. I need a new rad tho. Whats your thoughts on doing a serious hood vent. I was thinking like one set of vents in the top 2 corners of the car by the wipers and one ram vent at the very front of the hood and a vent to escape that air in the middle at the top. it may sound redicules but The design Im thinking of dosent look ENTIRELY bad and Like I said colder is better so looks dont entirely matter at this point. Im having idling issues with heat and I am almost positive its the rad.

you shouldnt need to do any venting to keep temps normal. it wasnt needed from the factory, so you shouldnt need it now. which means that something is broken/not working correctly.

put a coolant system compression tester on it for an hour or so. if you dont see any coolant on the ground but you lose pressure, its your headgasket. if you do see coolant on the ground, you obviously have a leak somewhere. if you dont lose pressure or coolant, its probably time for a system flush or radiator since you already have a new water pump and thermo.
