That said, pull the drivetrain and put it in storage along with the rest of the parts you take off. Do a dual carb L20B with an FS5 tranny. A set of good tires and some Koni struts and you'll have a winner.

It's not like the car is a Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe or a Rolls Royce Silver Phantom II, so go ahead and mod it. Make it reliable however you can with modern stuff. Dealing with carbs every day sucks, trust me. I'm still trying to get a hold of my Triumph guy for you. I need some inlet/runner measurements.

Yeah, lets go cut up every 36 year old car with 14k original miles on it just because. It doesn't have to be a one-off, million dollar car to be collectible. Hell, it doesn't even have to be the coupe version of the 510 to be collectible. I'm just saying, that car as it sits is probably worth 7k or more. Dumping the engine out, tinkering with every bit on it, and undoing all the original parts is only going to devalue it. Why did I think that a comment on classic Datsun hardware would fall on deaf ears with this crowd...

"Dealing" with carbs every day? That's not even going to be on the radar on a 90* day with no AC (510 AC is basically unobtanium), a vinyl interior and tiny 70's windows.

Seeing as I have a 44 year old car and a 26 year old car with carbs, I can tell you they're cranky. Once you're done fiddling with them for cold weather, in comes the warm. Tuned for low humidity? Here comes the rain.

Personally, I have to get out of the car after pumping it twice and fiddle with the choke on one of mine every damn morning, rain or shine. Choke sticks open for some reason. Nobody can figure it out. Lemme tell you about how much fun it is to do that when it's raining. Having black vinyl bench seats in the middle of the summer is the least of my worries, I just carry a towel. Vent windows were invented for a reason, most every car built back then has a plethora of venting solutions that makes the ride pretty decent.

I'm all about old iron, trust me. I'm not saying it should be hacked to shit, it just needs to be within the realm of what he knows how to fix.

^ does it matter?
It's still a cool car, but not sexy or badass. Don't be stubborn.

Funky, Restore it, don't destroy it.
Last thing I would like a piece of Datsun's history is on the track going sideways with a trail of smoke @ 50 mph.
