Default Nissan Parts Warranty Question

Hello. I purchased an alternator from Autoway Nissan on 1/7/07 for $245 and it failed on 12/24/07. I called the dealer and they said to bring it in for a replacement, but they would need to test it before processing the claim.

The car was dead and I was out of town, so I did not to take it in until 1/28/07. The Parts Manager stated the Nissan Warranty Department will deny the claim because it's been over 12 months and there was nothing the dealership could do. When I asked about the phone call in December, he said that there was nothing documented on his end, so his hands were tied. He was very apologetic and offered me a discount on another reman, but it still comes out to over $200.

I purchased the car at this dealership over 2 years ago and was thinking about buying another car there, but this has me thinking twice if they are willing to lose a customer over $245.

For those of you that work at a Nissan/Infinity dealership or have a lot of experience dealing with this sort of issue, please let me the best approach to resolve the situation.
Thank you.

damn that sucks...technically it is over a year.
perhaps you should calmly explain this to the manager or higher that him (if you didnt already do so) that you were planning on buying another car there and that this does not bode well for the sale...

btw, do you still have KA parts, if so PM me plz

Thank you. That's what I was thinking. I feel terrible for not being able to get in, but it seems Nissan Corp should allow dealerships some leeway for this type of situation.

Just sent you a PM.

im pretty sure its up to the manager to keep the customer happy and i am pretty sure that the owner would hate to lose a sale...i know personally that i would help you out and get it fixed for you.

its just seems like good business practice...i could understand maybe if you were just a parts customer, but not if you purchase cars from that dealership as well...

you seem to be a calm person, just go down there again and instead of going to the parts dept. go to the lot...speak to someone and tell them you are interested in buying another car soon, but explain what happened...most likely a hungry salesmen will try to help you, hand you his card and hope you come back to him.

as for the KA parts i'll let you know

I worked at Nissan parts dep for awhile. Hate to say this but your going to have to get a new one. Nissans warranty is 12 months anything over they will not cover like they said. What you should have done was orderd it over the phone when your originally called, they would have gotten it from Nissan North America and they would have put it on the shelf, it would have bought you atleast 3 months and you would have proper documentation that you had orderd it.

What happens is when a part is orderd they have it on SPO on the computers, once the part has been there so long they either make a place to stock it and add it to inventory OR they will send it back. Since it was an alternator they would have stocked it as it would have cost more to send it back to Nissan and it's a common product unlike somthing like interior peices or somthing.

You can try that but i can almost gaurentee it will not work. The most they would do is offer you COST on it.

another alternative is buy a new one and return the old one in about a month saying that is the new one that failed again an say you just want a refund because you got one somewhere else because you were sick of it or something works all the time
