Alright fellas here goes...

A couple months ago I was at Shell and I was told that my valves were ticking because of my shims...he said all 240s do it around 90K miles. Now is there a solution to this problem? Im about ready to take it to a shop and get them adjusted which would be good for the car anyways right? I just want to try to get some power back into my engine...Ive run RXP fuel injector cleaner nothing seems to work...any help appreciated.

Kris

hmm...if you have a 16 valve KA24DE motor your valves are hydraulic and should adjust themselves. If your valves are tapping you might have your timing advanced too much or delayed. I have heard that the KA timing chain is good up to 250000 miles...but you might want to look into getting it replaced. If your valves are tapping slightly and not severely buy a can of the black stuff which fills hydraulic valves and pour it into your crankcase. after a few mins the valves should fill and stop tapping.

i changed the oil on my 91 hatchback every 2000 miles with regular non synthetic castrol 20w50 from 45k all the way to 170k and drove the car hard on the bottle at least 3-4 times a month. changed the timing chain and tensioners at 128k even though i had no problems....and never had a problem with the car ever.
