Truck tranny question
they are different models of the Jatco 4R01 Tranny's
the RL is the light-duty
and the RE is medium duty
I'm not sure what makes them different duties, probably different metal strength tolerances, but here's a list of the Jatco application list for those two models:
RL4R01A
1990–1998 Nissan Pathfinder
1990–1997 Nissan Hardbody Truck
1998–2001 Nissan Frontier
RE4R01A
1988–1998 Nissan Pathfinder
1990–1997 Nissan Hardbody Truck
1989–1998 Nissan 240SX
1989–1999 Mazda MPV
1990–1992 Infiniti M30
1990–1998 Nissan Pathfinder
1990–1993 Mazda Pickup
1990–1997 Nissan 300ZX
1990–2001 Infiniti Q45
1992–1995 Mazda 929
1992–1997 Infiniti J30
1993–1996 Mazda RX-7
1997–2000 Infiniti QX4
1998–2001 Nissan Pathfinder
1999–2001 Nissan Frontier
2000–2001 Nissan Xterra
–1997 Nissan 300ZX
–1989 Nissan Van
The lighter vehicle models used the RL, and the heavier vehicles, or vehicles with more hp and 4x4's typically used the RE's.

That doesn't really make sense. All automatic transmissions are hydraullic, thats the principle that automatic transmissions are based on. Good luck on the search, lookin for the tranny for the hardbody?

Yea. Well all the shifting in automatics is hydraulic but some are computer controlled to tell it when to shift and some are based on pressures.
