use google or wiki if you're looking for immediate answers, compared to posting and waiting for minutes or hours. Especially when it comes to general questions.

Early S13 came with the SOHC motor (KA24E), while from 1991 and up, Nissan went with the DOHC motor (KA24DE). All S14 and +1991 S13 came with the DOHC motor. The SOHC and DOHC motor is used in many other Nissan models including the Altima and hardbody truck.

If you're thinking of the SR20DET motor, you can wiki it. It's found in the S chassis in Japan and other foreign countries. The SR did make it here in the U.S, but it wasn't turboed. It's found in the Sentra SE-R versions.
Nissan 240SX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I suggest doing some of your own research on the S chassis, but you will find that they are both are generally the same cars.

From what you said if you are going to build a 240 and want more of a drivers car for the feel get a S13.. Other then the looks of the cars and the feel they are basically the same thing motor and suspension wise like Importluv said. The S14 is newer of' course so more pricey and most of them will be in better condition then your average S13 with better interior in my opinion, I hope that helps you on the quest of becoming a 240 owner.

I have a s14 right now, but was driving an s13 for years... I actually prefer the s13 overall, but it depends on what you want it for. My s14 is just my dd right now, and I'm more willing to wait to make major swaps or mods, where as with the s13 I had this desire every time I drove it to make it better

i've had both...it's really a personal preference. they both are nice, fun cars. it just depends on what you personally are looking for and what you want to do with it. either way its a win win situation. good luck with it
