Default Rebuilding a motor.

Alright, so I plan on finding a motor to rebuild and swap into my car, but I had a few questions.

1. When finding a motor, does it matter if the motor has a spun bearing, or is it better to find one in good running condition? I am sure it doesn't make too much of a difference, but does it really matter?

2. When rebuilding a motor with the plans of boosting it, I want to use stock crank, rods and all that, just with low comp. pistons. When breaking it in, should I just use the low comp. pistons and use the stock manifold and injectors during the break in time, and then when it's time to tune it, put the turbo setup on? Or would it be good to run the turbo setup, and just not boost it, on a base-map?

I guess that's all I have to ask for right now, and I doubt it matters, but the motor that I plan on rebuilding/boosting is a Nissan single-cam KA24E.

Well, I am still seeing what else is out there, but if I keep it, boosted single cam, here I come.

"boosted single cam" <- worse idea ever... will blow up time and time again.... just dont do it

Don't get a spun rod motor, because it will cost you more to machine it right (sometimes you find out a couple 100 dollars in that you can't even fix it) than to buy a decent running one.

the best motor to rebuild is one that has no rod knocks or bearing problems, but instead has like, a cracked ringland or just low on compression due to bad rings.

if theres something wrong with the crank, you'll be spending LOTS to get it perfect. i'm still not done paying for my bottom end stuff, because i'm a prick and absolutely have to keep my serial #'s correct with my motorset / chassis / registration / insurance / gauge cluster <3

Thanks Matt.

I am going to start looking for a motor once I find a job.
I really need to find a new job, cause I am super-broke.

Valet!! I do it on the side until I am done with my internship. I drive the phatest cars and I go home with cash every night I work. About the only car I haven't driven is a Bugatti. It will get you by until you get a better job and then it can be an easy second job.

The company is 717 but I think to find it on the web you'll need to write it out when you google it.

Most valet places require a perfect/very clean driving record.

I most certainly do not have that. lol.

If you can talk to the owner personally, they usually don't care because alot of the time you don't leave the parking lots with the cars, and if you do you just drive 100ft down the road. I mean as long as you dont have like a shit load of speeding and hitting stuff.

Only 1 accident on my record, and that was 4 years ago, just speeding.
