Datsun Dreaming
I've been busy over the last few days. First I repaired my coolant overflow tank. It had the usual hole in the front of it and a bunch of mold growing in it, so I chipped away most of the weak plastic, bleached and scrubbed the thing clean, sanded it a bit and patched over the hole with 3 layers of fiberglass. Let it dry overnight and it works great, holds coolant for the first time, and saved me 70 dollars (80 bucks for a new one on e-bay vs. 10 dollars for fiberglass). There's still a weak spot on the back of it that I'm going to strengthen with a layer or two of fiberglass when I'm bored.
Then I installed new shocks. Just KYB GR-2s on stock springs, but my stockers were blown and I can't afford coilovers for a while. I almost bought some S-Techs, but I read a lot about problems people had with them and decided it just wasn't worth the money. Save up to spend it on coilovers later. I installed one shock on the front and took it for a drive; wondered why it was pulling so hard to one side. Started to install the other shock and realized that the top spring hat has to be installed a certain way on these cars
. Took a quick look at the FSM to get that sorted out and now the car rides and handles better than ever.
Next up is a coolant flush, a bit of other random maintenance and a tranny fluid change to Redline MT-90 and she should be ready to hit up some rallycross and autocross events. Well, there's the issue of the mystery engine knock, but I'm hoping to take it to a shop to see if somebody can help me figure that one out. I'm starting to think it's just some random rattle at certain rpm and not something more sinister. Either way I'm still racing it- I'm past the stage where I'm overly concerned about blowing up a stock KA. I ride my bicycle to school and only drive my car once or twice a week so it's not like I miss it for a month or two of downtime.

i fixed the camber/tire rub on the front tires and cleaned the sandy dirt shit from the wheel well. i liked how clean the front was so much i jacked the rear up and cleaned the wheel wells there too lol.
then i replaced my drivers side corner light with a less fucked up one.
then i fixed the idle issues i was having when the a/c wasnt on with the turn of a screwdriver.. yay!

Huh, wish I'd known about that before I took 3 years off my life inhaling those fiberglass fumes. This is what not going on the forums does to you; I was on the DSM forums every day when I had that car and there was always some neat trick like that popping up. Oh well.
hahah yeah. my friend actually found it while on the supraforums. and ordered one for his supra. then he told me the price and i couldnt find a better way to blow 6bux since it made my engine bay that much spacious.
