Isis arms are made with mild steel and have shitty welds. SPL are Chromoly and are tig'd they're nothing at all alike and all the chinese shit run metric rod ends which most of the time you cant get decent replacements for.

So that's a terrible argument, and unless you have access to a decent tubing supplier, rod end supplier, machinest, and are decent at Tig welding you cant make anything half as nice.

You can piece rods online for a lot cheaper than companies like SPL. For example, the thread on NRR.

I made tension rods and toe rods/traction rods for about $80 a pair and used the same rod ends and aluminum rods just like SPL tension rods.

I have had multiple pairs of SPL rods, and on two pairs of tension rods my rod ends rusted and SPL advised me they were not safe for continued use.

ISIS arms welds are actually pretty nice, I have 2 sets and both of them are perfect.

OT: got a new coupe shell, and did a shit load of work to it already. Gonna start a build thread in a few days.

a pretty weld isn't always a strong weld and a strong weld isn't always pretty. just saying, tig welding isn't always the strongest type of welding. I'm a certified welder and i can tell you from experience that all these arms dont really have the greatest of welds on them. i bet if you took any name brand arm and took a cut sample of a welded joint and compared it to that of a cheaper arm the weld prob has near the same amount of penetration.

+1

when i learned how to weld, i learned that sometimes a "sloppy" weld, could sometimes have better penetration than a "good" weld..

not taking sides, just sayin'

Damn it, Tension rods wont be shipped until sometime after Thursday. Oh well. They switched shipping for me to ground shipping since

"we are temporarily out of the hybrid adjusters used on the tension rodsI am expected the new batch to be back from our platers on Thursday"

raised the insurance coverage on my car...

now insured for $30K
full coverage
$500 deductable

and only raised my rates $60 a month....

a lot better than insuring it for $5000 and having minimum coverage on it like i did...
