Protecting your investment!
Somethings that will protect your car/investment.I posted this in another thread and thought it'd be good to start its own thread.
We are Nissan enthusiast's and we need to protect our investment's because I know everyone of us put our blood, sweat,$$$$ and tear's into car's so please do something to stop people from taking your dream from you.
-battery kill switch/ignition cutoff
-alarm/lo-jack
-detachable steering wheel w/lock
- the "Boot" it sounds funny but will help from getting your car towed or them trying to moving your car without starting it etc..
-Really bright flood lights infront of your house.
-A dog,My dog sits at my windows and if he hears anything or see's anything he will bark.. alot. lmao
If anybody would like to add anything I'd like to make this thread on how we can deter asshole's from stealing Nissan's.
ALWAYS USE PROTECTION!
the few dollar's you may spend could spare your car and could be the best thing you buy for your car.
I know alot of us dont have full coverage on insurance so you better protect your baby somehow!!!!!!
thanks,Blake

Take your motor out of your chassis and store it in the garage.
Store your ECU, CAS, fuel pump, or whatever prevents your car from starting or moving in a secure section of your home such as the attic of your home.
But who's gonna do all this when their car is a DD? no one.
Everyone will be limited in their security spending. Not everyone can afford a home with a garage. Not everyone will enjoy taking the responsibility of feeding and caring for a puppy.
Be safe, take care of your belongings. Be aware of your surroundings and neighborhood <= this only requires a few seconds of your noodle power...good luck to the ones who don't have any

Usually thieves would carry small handtools such as screwdriver and pliers.
Sorry kungfoooo, kill switches wont do. Just cut the positives and reconnect them together.
There are thousands of gadets in the market. Google the search. Some works great, some don't.

How to Avoid Car Theft and Break-Ins | eHow.com
1
Step One
Park your car in an area that is well-lit and near lots of people.
2
Step Two
Keep the windows rolled up and the car locked, even if it's parked at your own house.
3
Step Three
Keep valuables in your car hidden. Consider buying a removable stereo face to keep in your trunk or carry with you.
4
Step Four
Consider buying a visible mechanical locking device to lock the steering wheel, and/or an auto theft alarm system.
5
Step Five
Install locking lug nuts to prevent your custom wheels or externally mounted spare tire from being stolen.
6
Step Six
Keep in mind when purchasing a new car that some makes and models have a higher incidence of theft than others.
7
Step Seven
Keep your car registration and insurance card with you instead of in the glove compartment so that thieves cannot produce these documents if stopped by police.
8
Step Eight
Disconnect either the battery or the coil wire from the distributor cap if you have to leave your car unattended for an extended period of time. Car thieves will often not have the time or the desire to diagnose why the car won't start.
9
Step Nine
Take your ignition keys to a locksmith or car dealer to remove the key number, which thieves can use to have the keys duplicated (jot down the number for your records first).
10
Step Ten
Etch the vehicle identification number (VIN) onto the doors and fenders of your car with an electric engraver for extra protection. This helps to discourage professional car thieves, who will have to remove the markings to resell the car.

even parking in well lit popular areas doesn't work.
even the car alarm doesn't work.
how many times have you been at the mall on a busy saturday afternoon and heard a car alarm go off? how many people even hesitated, let alone turn and look?
Now wonder, how many of those alarms are people stealing that car?
It doesn't take a lot to find a wiring diagram for an alarm system, especially factory ones...
I like the lojack system. It can be installed so you don't even know it is there. no lights, no alarm, no warning. If you don't know it is there, then you don't know to disarm it. Lojack is a great gps tracking system. It doesn't really help keep your car from getting stolen, not a lot can, but it does tell you where the car is so you can go get it back much quicker than trying to find it on your own.
another idea to consider. it wouldn't be that expensive, but it would take some know how to do the wiring. Computers have little USB locks. some of them don't even have to be plugged it, it just has to be within a certain proximity. I have no doubt that you could wire that into your car so that your ECU won't get power unless that usb is plugged in, or is within proximity.
as for the whole, what do you do to prevent your car from getting picked up by a tow truck.... nothing, if someone wants that car on a flatbed, they will just drag the locked tires, and that boot thing right up onto it. the only thing you can do at that point is to activate your lojack and go get it back.
I like lojack because of the system it uses, but if you are smart and would rather take care of it yourself, then you can install your own GPS set up and you can grab your gun and go get your car back your own way... either way works for me...
--additional--
your little things like battery kill switches and disconnecting your coil wire, or locking lug nuts... basically everything on that list will prevent your punk kid from stealing the car. but a "pro" is stealing the car to steal the car. he could car less about the head unit, or anything like that. locking lug nuts prevent your punk kid from getting them. I've seen it in south St. Pete a group of guys will roll up with 4 way tire irons, with a different key attatched to each end. they only make so many different ones. every new nissan all has the same lock, since 2005. every set of rims from rent and roll comes with the same set.
the point i'm making is that there are lots of little things you can do to prevent your average punk ass kid from taking your crap. But if you get someone that has put even a few hours worth of thought into it, there isn't a lot you can do to prevent him, or usually them, from taking your car. your best defense when it comes to that situation is to have the tools needed to get your car back as soon as possible. the less time you give them, the better your chances are that you'll find your car in one piece. From what I can tell, most of the thefts have been by the same group. so they figured out how nissan wires stuff and they are just going at it. probably ebaying parts, shipping engines over seas and scrapping chassis. the sick part about it is that they are probably only making a 2-3 grand off of a really nice car... and much less than that on some busted s13 that someone has poured their heart and sole into...

That's all we are concern about, that's the enemy that most people are building their fortress up for, not a tow truck company. There's no competition with them.
