the whole ka-t debate comes down to built and tuned properly.. with a good tune and timing backed down to a safe lvl the ka-t is a great reliable motor.. not to mention.. CHECK THE MOTOR BEFORE YOU TURBO IT!! no high miles.. compression test it and make sure it has a min of 160 on each cylinder.. but to each his own

The intercooled version produced 202hp@6400rpms and 245@4400rpms, which is more about what an SR puts out, with a bit more torque. Remember these numbers are being produced in 1980! The motor itself weighs in at only 366lbs. for an iron block. The fastest 4 cylinder car in Australia is a FJ20ET powered S12 Silvia (Gazelle).

Here are some more pics for you guys to feast on:

You guys need to look into FJ20DET .... this is the king of all motors.. twin cam, iron block.. incredible head design.. completely forged bottom end factory... all this in 1980... fuel injected too.. This is the godfather of all performance turbo 4 cyl motors.

i'm betting 80% of Nissan tech has never heard of that engine lol

too bad they are rare (cept in europe and aus. it seems ) most of the FJ s12s i've seen are in europe and aus...

nissan also used it as their engine for the group B rally

here is a great site on the FJ

No way man, L20B is where it's at. Nissan's 86x86 golden formula. Full-counter crank, etc. How the KA went wrong from there is anyone's guess.

You can put KA heads on L20's i believe for crossflow as well.. or are they crossflow from the factory? I dont' remember, but i've seen full race L20's going for $10k even today.

You can't even sell a fully built TURBOCHARGED SR for $10k, yet L20 club racers will pay it all day long!!!!!

I read, I'm poor, I went sr

I like ka-t for the diy appeal even did one with the help of art, jeff240sx, presidenshul (sp)

the ca I have always viewed as a problem engine and the cheapness of getting one does not overwiegh its reliability.
