Default KA tranny Mate to SR?

i know it can be done, and i know the KA is suppose to be weaker, but when my SR's is trashed a weak one is still better lol

what i am curious about...

-who has done it?
-how do you like it?
-does the sr belhousing directly built to the KA gear box?

any other advice on the swap is appreciated
rep for help, thanks guys

-Eric

I have done it 2-3 times a year for the past 4 years.
KA transmissions are garbage just like KA's. They only have 1 syncro and I am lucky if I can get 2 months of good quick shifting or flat shifting out of them.
The SR bell housing directly bolts to the transmission with some wiggling, some finesse, and sometimes a hammer.
Advice:
Have the car up on a lift. Tilt motor down with scissor jack in between down pipe and frame rail. I usually replace my rear main seal while I am in there.

the only difference between the SR tranny and the KA tranny (other than bell housing) is that the KA has one syncro where the SR has two. If you know how to shift properly, it doesn't make a difference. I believe the gear ratios are even the same. so you won't even notice a difference there.

yes i am aware of the belhouse change

wasnt aware of the one to two syncros though

the way i do my logic is even if the KA tranny sucks ass, its still better than a broken SR tanny lol!!

ima saving for a clutch right now cuz i want to pop in a new clutch while i am in there but i was just checking before i actually do it. also if people have any good sr tranny's lying around pm me if they are cheap with no grinding

thanks for the help guys

i was curious if there was any trick to it...

mainly is the bolts from the SR belhousing lined directly with the KA gear box, wasnt sure if you needed anything to adapt them

and just any other info which might come in handy

everything fits in as if you were swapping in another ka gear box. as long as u disassemble everything properly, assembly is just the reverse of it.
