240sx randomly dies
can't figure this problem out, it started happening about a month ago on by DOHC swaped 89' 240sx, it would just die for seemingly no reason with no pattern to try and go by, it happens anywhere from 30 seconds to 1/2hour after the car starts and at anywhere from idle to 7k. the only thing i have been able to determine is that when the car dies the coil isn't firing, eventually it'll fire and the car will start again. I've tryed so much to fix the problem that im about ready to just push my car off a cliff somewhere,
I tried brand new coil, different ECU, different MAF, clean all the electrical connections on the plugs, check the grounds, new plugs, different distributer, next thing im gonna do is reseal my valve cover because it leaks a tiny amount of oil into plug hole #1. anyway if anyone knows a solution or even a suggestion im willing to try it. (except trash it)

if the coil isn't firing, check to see if the injectors are firing like they should.
take your dist. out. leave everything plugged in, except for the coil wire. Turn the gear at the bottom, you ought to hear the fuel pump and the injectors. if everything is working the way it should, try to wiggle the cam sensor plug while you turn the gear. If at any point, things act funny, that plug is the problem. Its not the best design. It wears out after a while. if the connection isn't a good one, then it will teak the ecu. which in turn, won't tell the coil to fire, and it won't tell the injectors too shoot.
unfortunately, the only way to fix it is to replace it. you can kinda jimmy it, if you know how to take the plug apart without breaking it.
try it and see if it works.
good luck.

if you're going to trash it, donate it to me so i have a car to work on and if i get it fixed i can give to my sister.
Btw I'd try your distro cap, all the SP's, re-check all the wires leading to the coils + the coils themselves..

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.
I don't even know what the fuck you're trying to say there; alternator?

also , check your egr valve. im not sure if the 240s had um, but it sounds like the same problem ive had with my 300zx. every no and then, when im in either 4 or 5th, my car would just shut off but mines an egr valve.
emissions are gone already, hmm still does it, but i can add to the list new cap and rotor, new ignition module, new wires, sealed the oil leak. also i pulled the distributer and the sensor seems fine. Meh next step is a new harness.
just to add when it dies, its almost immediately stops. no dieseling, sputtering or anything.
