remember if you have the ballancing done, you have to have everything from the harmonic balancer pulley to the flywheel and pressure plate on it for it to be effective

do yourself a favor and see if the machine shop can do something called "bullnosing" or something of the like. Instead of a knife edge its more of airplane wing shape. seen it in nascar engines (yeah yeah i know) much more aerodynamic from what im told. But who knows. dosent hurt to ask.

The supporting modifications you would need for a lightweight crank are many, and can get very expensive, very quik.

not sure what supporting mods you would be in refference to...
i can think of things that would be of benefit and make the advantage of the lightweight crank greater. kinda like a better intake benfits from a better exhaust.
some info on the suporting mods would be nice.

I know what you are talking about... i'm not sure if it would be of benefit for this application or not. i would be wanting to rev out alot further than the nascar cars do... if i find any useful info on that i'll post it.

i guess if you were going to go that far with an aftermarket crank have you considered an oil scraper made up?

If i'm gonna go that far, then I'm definatly going to do it right..

there are already oil scrapers and windage trays made for the KA.

Home

theyre not that great though, quality is iffy.

i was always under impression KA motors' cranks do not sit below the oil level anyways, so the need for knife edging and windage trays isnt required. crank scraper will always make a difference as the oil dripping down from the pistons squirters gets flung around and foamed up, and scraping that off the crank will help...but will it be noticable?

people are making 700+ on stock cranks, with nothing more than polishing for bearings and balancing. so unless you want 500 or more, i say its a waste of money.

You would need lighter, forged rods and pistons plus a ballancing done.
After shelling out thousands of dollars on the short block, it would be silly
to put the engine together without many power mods.
