Default Knock Sensor for a 96 Infinity I-30...

How much of a PITA is this to change? It's my Girls car and it needs to be replaced. Any help is appreciated... ( And rep will be awarded.)

it is usually on the block right in the middle of the cylinders, right below the headgasket line. being a fwd i-30, im going to think there's still only one sensor (i'm not sure if any came with 2), but chances are it's hidden away on the backside/firewall side. look on middle cylinder and it will be a big black plastic deal, round, with a bolt through it into the block and a wire loom heading to a connector usually. might be a toughie to find. changing it is a matter of connector and one bolt (usually 12mm IIRC) away. tell your gf to do it she has small hands lol.

One knock sensor under the intake manifold.

12mm bolt intake side between the cylinders. Take out the air box and other random vac tubes and piping. Get a swivel socket in 1/4 in. getting the harness off down there will be the hard part, so loosen it first then disconnect it, then when installing the new one connect it first, then install. I dont recommend trying to make it easier by taking off the intake manifold as it is a complete and total PITA, with the EGR tube being against the firewall.

Go easy when reinstalling knock sensors as the crystal inside can be damaged.

From you local Infiniti tech. . . .
