PCV valve help?
Whats the best way to attack the pcv valve?
I've had people tell me that you have to take off the manifold. or the alternator, or something crazy like that.
Anybody got any hints or tips.... or maybe some cheat codes, that would help too...
thanks

up, up, down, down... no wait, that'll only give you 99 PCV valves.
There's no problem leaving it on there. On the KA it's behind the alternator, which is all the more reason to leave it. The only problem with the PCV is when you don't have the fresh air vent hooking back into the intake pipe, but that's only in rare cases. If you're having problems, replace it.

i didn't mean how to remove it and all that, i mean, how to get at it to replace it. I'm having issues and from what I can tell, its going to be a pain to get to it to replace the valve.

Pull the alternator and any manifold braces that are right there. Then you'll have to feel around to find it. This is one time when you'll need to actually disconnect the battery, since you're so close to the starter cable and alt cable.

i wasn't sure if I could get around the alternator or not.
The more I look at it, the more I want to take the alternator and the alternator bracket off.
I'll let you know how it goes.
thanks

I started it today. I found a "walk through" that didn't remove the alternator. Instead they did it by means of throttle body. I started doing it step by step. It was all going good until I realized that I didn't have the right tool. I've got a 19 mm but its too long to fit anywhere effectively. I can see what I want to do. I can feel it. the whole nine yards. so i know its possible. Its just a matter of the right tool/find a slightly different way.
While I was in there, I noticed two things. One, the entire area is really, really greasy. I'm guessing this would be a common problem if the valve wasn't functioning properly? Should I be looking for any other problems?
Second, the tubing that attaches to the valve itself, is really stiff. Should it be like that? I kinda thought it was supposed to be flexable like all of the other tubing in the area. the tubing doesn't have any give at all. Its very hard. I'm going to have to look at it again when I have more day light, but it doesn't seem to have enough give to take it off of the valve without breaking it. any ideas?
thanks
