Over Rev
How many guys have went a good amount past redline (say like 1K) and had their engine survive with no internal work done? I know I am posting in the wrong area (should be in dodge) but their is nobody their to answer and I figured I would just poke around here with that question. Well anyway, my redline on my dodge ram is around 5500...well I took it to about 7100 and well lets say it wasn't THAT good. The throttle got stuck for some reason while the clutch was engaged but as soon as it went back into gear the rpms dropped down to about 3000 which isn't bad. Does anyone have any ideas on why it would jump up like it did ONLY with the clutch engaged? Please help because I don't want to have this happen again, I think it blue my alternator or something because one of the 3 components on that belt has got to be frozen up since the belt is slowly getting ripped apart when the engine was turned back on (thank God it fires back up with out any problems). It was idling fine with out any abnormal sounds except smoke pouring off of the belt. Had to turn the engine off before I could isolate which component was froze up. Also if any questions about the mods I have....modified stock intake with a stereo system and subs and when I hooked them up I regrounded the car in the same places but with 4 gauge wire instead of stock 10 gauge or whatever they used.
Good news!!!! Engine seems to be in good working order. It's idling fine and I found out that the throttle cable is going bad and sticking which isn't a big deal. The new one comes in today and it only takes like 15 mins to install. The part that froze up isn't worth having either since we live in florida. It was some type of fresh air pump for polution crap in the cat. Once I get my exhaust on I'm ripping that sucker off anyways so it wasn't a big deal at all. I think the engine will do fine but I know for sure I will never take it past 5000-5500 again. If I had a KA24DE then I wouldn't mind hitting 6500-7k but my truck redlines at 5k and is deff. not the newest thing on the road. lol
The smoke was coming from the emmisions pump thing that took a shit. I ripped the belt off that went to it and the smoke stopped. The thing was frozen up pretty bad but O well thank god for florida not having to pass the emmisions crap once a year!!!

I had some more fun. This time I did it on purpose. I got the engine to around 7500 rpm but it wouldn't rev any higher. I know it redlines at around 5K...why wont it go past 7500 not that I want to but I was just wondering if it is like computer controlled to not go past that. I was thinking about the MSD 6AL ignition and setting up the limiter at 6K so I wont have to worry about the engine anymore.
I must not be reading this. Clearly your not trying to take the engine above its redline, for fun.
This post has made me dumber. Thank you.
I say you rev to 10,000 rpm so it sounds like an Indy car. Since you have the modified intake, I'm sure your making power up there.

Ok...so your dumber...anyway I was just asking why some engines will go that far past redline but stop at some random point like mine redlines at 5K but wont stop reving until 7500k which is a pretty large redline area...2.5K worth. So answer that instead of saying some dumb shit...you should rev your car to 11k...w/e
