Default Decode RHD Clip Vin

I am trying to decode the vin that was on my clip that I got my motor out of (SR20DET). I want to know the exact year my motor is. Anyone know where I can decode my vin?

Look at the motor itself.
Blktop (1994-1997)
Bright Redtop (1991-1992) zenki
Maroon/dark redtop (1992-1993) kouki

About the redtops, it's very odd that nissan used two different color reds. It's my assumption about the redtops years.

Is it possible that the VIN number record was retired and destroyed once it left Japan?
If so, that makes it harder to track down.

Here's the long and short of it. Nissan's 17 digit VIN number has a character in it that denotes model year. The JDM cars don't have 17 digit VINs. It was replaced by that weak "Chassis No". The "Model" can be partially decoded based on USA codes. RPS13 = hatchback, turbo SR, S13. J=? F = 5sp, also denoted as FS5W71C below that. T and M = ? C = air con. W = sun roof. 29 = trim package, which was probably the top level since it was a turbo car.

The color KG2 is Dark Grey or Gunmetal-ish. G means that the interior was Black. SR20 (DET) 1998 means, of course, that you have an SR and that it displaces 1998cc. This is commonly mistaken for the model year, which is why you see so many people claiming that they have a 1998 year motor. FS5W71C is the code for the 5sp trans, which dates back to the original Z's and the FS4. RC40 is the rear end ratio, which in this case was 4.0:1, or actually 4.083:1. RC43 cars have a 4.363:1 ratio. W is the Kyushu plant, which is where all (including US ones) S13's were built.

So the bottom line. That chassis number is pretty low, so I'd have to say 90 or 91.

Heres the deal! I only ask because when I was installing my ac in my car, i bought a KA DOHC compressor. When trying to install the 2 bolts, the compressor would not line up for the life of me. I then took the car to CFP to see what the deal was and later found out that I have a late model black top (96-98 years) due to the AC bracket being diffenent. I had to get another SR compressor off a motor with the same bracket in order for it to work because not any blacktop compressor will bolt right up. Now CFP did not make any money off me for doing my AC. I did my own AC work so they were not just feeding me a line of BS to make any money.

from what i know you have to have a factory installed k/a compressor. the dealership installed ones dont fit the sr. i beleive i read that on some website and that is the reason why my ka compressor wouldnt fit on my redtop. ill see if i can find were i read that.

edit: i found this on heavy throttle
DOHC KA compressor usually bolts right on, using 2 of the 4 SR bracket bolts. Dealer installed AC may or may not line up correctly.

why not just use your sr compressor and get the sr lines spliced to the ka ones?

now according to epstein if your clip is in fact a 90-91 i would look into seeing if you actualy have a black top and not just a redtop with a black valve cover.
