the manifold might be differnt, but the flanges should be the same and will bolt up i think.

certain models had 2, in the years between 95 and 96. it has something to do with automatics and california emissions and the switch from obd-1 to obd-2.

its either in the lower part of the manifold, or in the normal location between the front pipe and where the "catback" exhaust starts. mine was in the normal location.

97 and 98 had a 2 piece design, my exhaust manifold terminates after the runners collect (similar to SOHC manifolds). i believe the other design has the exhaust manifold being longer with the cat integrated into it, and it terminates lower or something. or it is in the upper part of the front pipe.

Didn't certain S14's have "fake" cats? I'd assume that they were the ones with the cat in the manifold, with the faker in the normal location.

yeah, but orion did some testing with RDM Russ a while back and some of them had real cats in location 1 (front) and fake in location 2, others had fake up front and real in back, and some had real cats in both.

edit - come to think of it mine had fake cat up front (hollow bulge under the flange after the manifold).

mine had the real cat in location 1 and a fake cat in location 2. it now has a hotshot header and custom test pipe. The problem is the set-up is illgel for Scca Solo 2 STS class. I have to have a cat in the factory location, so i am trying top find a way to bend the rules for my up coming trip to Topeka, KS for Nationals. But some did have a fake cat in loc. 1 and a real cat in loc. 2?? if that is ture i might just be good if i can get a cat for location 2( under the car).

do they actually check inside the piping? if not, you could get by with the fake cat in location 2. or what about buying a hi flow cat. PDM sells some, theyre not cheap, but theyre not super expensive. unless one of the techies is a 240sx nut, he won't know that certain years had fake cats

it has to be able to pass an emissions test. I havent been tested yet though and i doubt i will. The problem is there is a guy running a 92 240sx in STS who might be at Nationals and the Cat in the manifold is why he didnt use the s14. If he doesnt show i will be golden though.
