off set rims?
i have a 89 240sx ,is a 40 offset rim too much ? i dont want the rim & tire to stick to stick out .

That question is very subjective. My advice is spend some time doing searches on wheels fitments on the various websites. Look hard enough and you will find a lot of pics, specs, and info.
I can say that a 16x7 +40 wouldnt look good to me, as it would stick in more than an inch. You are also going to find out that there are not too many options for wheels with good fitments for a 4 lug 240.

I got 38+mm wheels that are 7" wide. When i put 1/2" wheel plates on the front, and 1/4" in the rear, they will be flush with the body.
40+mm...you will need somewhere around 20 mm spacer plates for it to flush with the body.
