Default '95 S14 manual swap questions...

okay..
just got a 1998 M/T from S14
going to put that in my '95
what are the sensor differences [if any]?
the '95 is a 3C ecu..and the car i got it from used a 3R ecu

also...i am doing this swap out of my garage..because i dont know anyone w/ a lift
so i have been planning out to take the motor out and unbolting the tranny and working w/ it like that..instead of working in an awkward position under the car..

so ive been chatting w/ a friend..n he said maybe i could unbolt the a/c compressor so i dont have to discharge any freon..
i'm trying to do this swap as cheap as i can..so if i dont need to replace it..i wont

anybody recommend a good M/T fluid for me to use?
thanks for any feedback..

Someone may need to correct me, but I think the plugs are different on the 97-98 bell housing. I don't think there's a difference, whether you can use it or not, but you should look into it. On top of that, you can unbolt the ac compressor and power steering from the motor and take the motor out, without leaking everywhere.

If you have experience with taking out the motor, I think it's a good idea that you take the motor out and work on it that way. It will make it easier on you and just as you said you don't have to be working on your back.

what sensors do you need to keep?

All of them, or just speed / backup lights?

i have no idea...my first guess is that it should all be compatible because its s14..
but since the ECU that the tranny came off is diff..i am wondering whether its compatible at all..

you can use an s13 transmission, just swap out the s13 speed sensor with the s14, thats all you really need. I dont know anything about kouki transmissions but I bet its the same. just swap the speed sensor from your auto transmission to the kouki 5spd one or check if the speed sensor plug on the kouki trans will plug in. if it plugs in it should work. Speed sensor is all I really plug in on a manual trans, even if I plugged in the other sensors my rev. lights and stuff still doesnt work.

s14 sensors were the same on the tranny the speedo, reverse and bellhousing sensor should be all you need to hook up.

thanks everyone...now that that part is settled...one more problem just came up...
i really really think that the bolts are all the same..for the bellhousing

The bellhousing bolts are similar, but different for the Auto and 5-speed transmissions...you may be able to reuse a couple, but you'll need new ones (length) for 95% of the bolts - Anyway, here are the part numbers and lengths:

Credit to "roycenagger" from Freshalloy for the part numbers listed here...

If you choose to get these from your local ACE Hardware (or wherever)...the bolts for the block are all M10 X 1.5 thread/pitch, so just find bolts of the correct length as listed above.

i really want this swap to go smoothly..i know im talking alot..
but this auto tranny is KILLING ME! i might just buy them just in case..or ill compare some of the sizes to see if this is true..

i just want this to be as informative as possible so it would benefit some people in the future.
