I've got a question for spec v owners....
I bought an 05 Spec V a few months back I want to do a few things to give it a little more power. My wife bought me the nismo header, nismo cai and megan down pipe for Christmas and I'm thinking of running this set up with the factory catback. Not being all that familiar with this car I'm not sure how restrictive the factory cb is, do you guys know of anyone running a similar set up?
I just can't justify spending $500 on the nismo cb for such a minimum power gain. Besides the fact that I do not want to sound like rice or draw attention to my vehicle. There is nothing worse than getting reved at every damn red light.
Just one thing to add before the internet thugs start flaming away. I know that this will not make this car fast. If I was looking for quarter mile speed I would have bought another car. I would just like to make my daily driver a little more fun.

the muffler is going to be the thing that changes your exhaust note more dramaticly then anything else. the gains you`ll see from just the headers and down pipe will be minimal (my opinion, i sure if i`m wrong someone will tell me). but they will look nice. a full cb will show more results, obviously, however you lose the stock sound. find a nice system and you should have a good sound, wal-mart brand muffler is going to give you the shitty sound.

The factory exhaust is restrictive, but you shouldnt have any problems running an aftermarket header with it. Most people hate the sound of the exhaust with a new header and stock exhaust, though. They describe it as a really "ricey" sound, but Ive never heard it in person so Im not sure.
actually, you will see sigificant gains from the header and inake on your car. i believe the header alone is worth 15 to 20. the another couple for the intake. i would try the stock exhaust just to see how it works, then upgrade if you feel you need to. i can get the greddy exhaust for your car and should give it a nice deep tone.

I figured I would pick up roughly 25-30 hp and torque. According to nissans #'s I should get that with the header and cai alone. Removing the cat with the down pipe should add a few more. I think I'll throw these on next week and see how it sounds with the facory catback. How much are you selling the greedy set up for?

Ok, heres some tips
1. www.thevboard.com is going to become a very good resource for you.
2.If your looking for an exhaust for the car that is subdued in its looks and sound then Apex'i WS2 Cat Back or the Stromung Cat back will prob be the 2 choices you have to look at, they both maintain a stock look pretty much and the stromung is nearly identical looking minus the polished muffler to the stock exhaust.
3. Nismo CAI typically adds about 8 - 10hp. Header will probably add around 15 - 17hp, the down pipe will add somewhere around maybe 5hp. And a full cat back exhaust will prob only tack on about 2 - 3 hp because the stock system is already extremely free flowing.
HOWEVER, if you run the CAI, Header, and Downpipe thru the stock exhaust its going to sound like you have a pack of 1000 Bee's coming out of your exhaust. You can go to that site that I gave you, www.thevboard.com and look on there and find numerous people that tryed to run with the stock exhaust and it sounded worse than a Civic with a pepboys muffler freshly welded on.
If the catback exhaust you get is still too loud just take it to a muffler shop and have another resonator welded into it, I believe the WS2 from apex'i comes with one welded on. I have the N1 apex'i catback exhaust and it came to me with a 12inch resonator already welded on.
If and when you do get the car fully bolted you can expect it to run in the neighbor hood of low 15's to mid high 14's in the quarter.
Hope this helps

+1 on the ricey sound, and also +1 for the power gains...i saw a spec V being tested with header...and intake, and with both it dyno'd an extra like 17hp at the wheels! not bad. exhaust was another 5hp I believe.

Most dyno sheets that Ive seen for a spec v with a SAFCII, and cams in addition to the bolt ons, typically put down around 175 to 180 WHP which add in 15% driveline loss I think it is and that turns out to be around 186 to 195 Crank Horsepower.

I've read in a few places that some folks are running mid to low 14's fully bolted with quality tires.... again driver plays a lot into it.... I know a few magazines tested the car and ran low to mid 15's stock. Thanks for the info about those web sites. I've tried to register there before but I never recieved their confimation email to activate my user name
I've been thinking about commiting to this car and spending some money on it but there is not alot of aftermarket support for the 2.5l. The ecu has not been cracked and nobody can seem to make a supercharger work.

www.specplace.com has a list on it of everything that is made for the QR25, it has some decent aftermarket support, certainly not as much as say a B series honda motor or a SR20 motor has but its there you just have to look for it.
