Default A couple of questions about a disco potato

Hey hows it going. I have a 96 civic running a custom turbo setup with a stock nissan turbo from a rb25. I want to upgrade the turbo, and i was looking at the gt28rs, since it would be a dirrect "bolt on" swap on my setup, since i am running the same 5 bolt flange on my downpipe as a sr20 or rb25. But my question was, how much bigger is the compressor housing. I had to shave a good deal of my block to fit this turbo on that i have now, and i dont think i could shave it more. Is the gt28rs compressor housing physicly larger?

Thanks alot,
Derek

It should be fixed, but if this turbos much larger it still wont clear. there is only so much room between the block and radiator

On the left is a GT28RS (disco potato , keep in mind this turbocharger has a internal wastegate (actuator) ) on the right is a stock s13 sr20det t25 turbocharger. Both are pretty much the same size. I believe the RB25 turbo is a T3 flanged turbocharger , so to get a true bolt in replacement/upgrade for your setup i'd go with a GT28RS t3 flanged turbine , but you would end up having to go with a external wastegate (something i'am sure CMS can do for you). But either way you shouldn't have clearence issues.

Edit: By the way these pictures are from sportcompactcar's website, courtesy of their project silvia.

atpturbo(www.atpturbo.com) sells disco potato's with a T3 flanged turbine inlet, but he would have to cut/weld on a external wastegate flange , so he can make use of it. Since it does not have a internal wastegate like the RB25 T3.
