ball joint problems...

Default ball joint problems...

Im having problems detaching the ball joint from the brake assembly. Ive slide two ball joint forks in at the same time and still cant get it to pop loose any ideas guys?

put the nut on the threaded part of the ball joint upside down so that it makes a flat surface (ie, nut flush with top of threaded portion). Hit with large hammer. Repeat.

Pickle forks suck. I just hammer everything now.

thanks for the tip! should I leave it installed on the car or take it off and do it on a bench?

I prefer doing it while it's still attached to the strut, on the car. Its easiest that way. Knock out the tierod and just spin it around.

just asking, but you arent taking that off to replace the t/c rod you messed up are you?

easiest way is 5 or 10lb sledge to the solid iron housing (aka spindle) that the stud of joint goes through and gravity does rest 99% of time.

or use a ball joint seperater. (not a pickle fork, since they just ruin it anyway.)

sometimes hitting it directly can mushroom the end and stretch the bolts, even with the nut on it. depending on how stuck it is though.
