Default black soot in intake piping after the turbo... normal?

there seems to be a lot of "black stuff" on the inside of my intake piping after the turbo. is this normal? just EGR stuff? is this the reason i would want an oil catch can??

black suit I would think would be exhaust residue. And Im not sure how that would end up inside your hot pipe. Oil residue should be oily and NOT suity.

FOR THE KNOW IT ALLS: Is it possible that exhaust is making its way through the turbo? I've NEVER heard of this happening.

Yes I think mine did something similar when I broke my thrust seal on my gt2540r aka mosquito killer. Is it smokin like Cheech when you get into boost?

nope. i don't get smoke at all during normal driving. the only problem i have with the car is that in cold weather it idles around 1200-1300rpm and in hot weather it almost stalls when my e-fans kick on... but i think it almost stalls because it runs way too rich and plumes of black smoke will come out.

thanks for the suggestions... any more help would be greatly appreciated.
