Default looking to buy a 300zx. have some questions

ok well im getting out of the honda world and im looking forward to owning a rwd car. my dad used to have a turboed 87 z so naturally i wanted to get a z. im looking for the 1990+ model. i would like to get a tt model but the price tag on some of those is nuts. so i think the n/a z is gonna be it. my question is what is your guys overall opinion on the z. is the n/a good and quick and how are they on reliability? will basic bolt ons do much to it? im looking to get a 12 to 11 second car. is this gonna be hard and expensive with the z ( the n/a or the tt) any advise is greatly appreciated. thanx

NA z32's are slow , i used to own one). 12's ore 11's won't be hard with a TT Z32 (but like i said they aren't the easiest cars to work on) , will be a chore with the NA z32 though. I really wouldn't want to build a strip car out of a Z. If you want to use a nissan platform to buildup a strip car , look into the s13 , it's probably one of the best all around sports cars built.

you wont get a 12 or 11 sec car out of a na...i have one with like 3 bolt ons and ran mid 14s but there is room for a faster time. Maintaining the z is not going to be cheap...if well maintained the car will be fun to drive. I drive my z daily for over 4 years now with no problems. I've owned 5 NA Z (2 parts cars and one sold) and 1 TT. I love 300zx's they are great cars and looked good also. If you like the z's than a NA will be fine for now.

a friend has a 92(?) n/a with damn near as much as you can do to the engine besides NO2 and he pulled like 211 hp on a dynojet. thats cams, intake, exhaust tune blah blah blah... his suspension is fully modded too and i beat him at an auto cross in my 84z (215 hp at the time)

Like everyone already said, You aren't gonna get a NA Z anywhere near 12's or even 13's. I had a 93' NA with Intake, Exhaust, JWT ECU and could barely break into 14's. The Z is not a drag strip car. It is a touring/autocross car. The TT would even be hard to get into the 11's - You have major wheelhop issues and it will cost a lot of $$ to get it to even 400whp. I had a 94 TT as well and I dropped 6 grand into it and it made 410whp. The Z is also heavy, I was in the low-mid 13's with my TT Z. I sold it and got a car made for the drag strip..

TT Z32 = expensive, hard to work on, probably expensive to get worked on.
NA Z32 = Slow, not the easiest to work on either.

Both are reliable assuming you maintain them and replace the usual wear out items. I think it's mostly a matter of how much time and money you have to throw at it and how bad you want to do 12s.

You might also consider the older z31. Lost of junkyard parts, easier to work on, cheap to buy. I love mine.
