ok i recently picked up a s14 that has been swapped from auto to manual by XAT Racing, and the speedo and reverse lights do not work. The guy told me it needed a speed sensor... Well I have one off a S13 5speed and wanted to know if it would work. Ive sarched teh fprums and found nothing i used to have a Book marfked site explaining the process but it seems with all the Changing Search Engines I cant seem to find it again.


So heres my questions

Will a S13 Speed Sensor Work witha S14 Chasis.

And How would i go about wiring up the Reverse lights.

If anyone from XAT Racing see's this maybe you can remember the car. And know what was done.

i definately know will (coltN) from orlando forums owned it, i can tell by the picture (he has that gvr4 in the background).


speedo sensors are tranny specific. i dont believe the plugs are the same, i think they do fit either tranny (might only be able to use one screw though if it doesnt line up with the other one that holds it in)

reverse is one of the 3 other sensors on there, just find the harness part that goes to that and see if it hooks up, the plugs should be similar from auto to manuals...if not, you'll have to figure out where to run the wires from the sensor to the ecu

Nice S14. I disagree about the speedo sensors. I think that they are the same, since the S13 and S14 use the same FW51Cblahblahblah transmission. For the reverse lights, you'll need to consult the FSM and probably run wires. When I did the reverse lights in my S13, I basically had to make my own trans harness (with a total of 4 wires!).

the speed sensors DO NOT INTERCHANGE!!!

S13 will not work with S14 chassis!!!

for reverse lights, find which two wires on the auto sub harness make contenuity when reverse is engaged and take those wires and connect them to the reverse light switch on the manual tranny.

 

And vice versa. There is a reason why I have a pile of speed sensors strewn about the shop and dave's car. JDM sr ones don't work well either in a KA transmission.

Sorry to state the obvious, but....Why need reverse lights? (or a speedo for that matter.... )

 

im pretty sure he's using s13 transmission and that would explain why it doesn't work..
so using a s14 sensor on the s14 chassis sounds pretty logical..

 

i honestly do not know which tranny it is.. it was swapped when i got it. I just picked up a S13 VSS but i wanna be sure its the right one before diving in. And revers lights and speedos are law in fl.
