rotor size question
so if i order rotors i don't have to tell them whether i have the 26 or 30mm? if i'm running the 26mm calipers what size rotors do u suggest i get?

if you have 26mm (which I do on both of my cars) be very specific on what you buy because the 26mm rotors were produced for only one year so regular autoparts places become stupid trying to find them in their catalog. and if you get 30mm rotors with 26mm calipers you will be sad. Been there done that.
Switching gears 26mm rotors have 3mm vented center section and 30mm have 7/8mm vented section which the 26mm rotors are prone to cracking if you drive very aggressive or extreme temp changes (IE. hard braking in a puddle) Honestly go with the 30mm they are more reliable and the clearance from the caliper to wheel is only 2mm difference (checked on S14 SE rims with both calipers) Hope this helps you.

Go to whatever auto store you like and order 1990 N/A 300zx rotors... you will get 26mm rotors (if they dont screw up).... ever other year, N/A or turbo, will get 30mm rotors.

thanks for the info guys. how do u guys like the upgraded brakes on your 240's? is there a big difference? Do you have to get the z32 MC for it also to get the most use out of the z brakes?

z32 MC is not nessecary at all. stock s14/s15 in japan use the same mc we do (except the brake line hookup is on the other side); However, when your brake mc starts leaking or malfunctioning for any reason step up to the z32 for the extra pedal feel if so inclined too.
Just to complete the data in this thread regarding 26 vs 30mm calipers, the 26mm calipers have a 32mm channel for the rotor. The 30mm calipers have a 36mm channel for the rotor. The 30mm rotors would physically fit inside a 26mm caliper, but I don't think would bolt up due to different spacings.
I don't think that the 26mm rotor has *only* a 3mm vent versus a 7/8" (22mm) vent on the 30mm rotors. If that was the case, the 30mm would be crack city with only 4mm thick friction surfaces. I'll go check mine out later. Cracking is more due to manufacturing at this point.
Also, I really don't think that there is any braking advantage between the 2 setups. You'd only be able to tell the difference if you were continually braking hard enough to fade them. In that case, I doubt you'd ever be able to do that, even, as a 90 Z32 N/A weighs about 6-700 pounds more than your average S13.
Also, FYI, the pads are the same regardless of year, turbo, and rotor thickness.
