The SOHC IS reliable and will handle plenty of boosted fun (~350WHP)if tuned properly. I'm in the process of fabricating a bolt-on turbo kit for the KA24E. My car is under the knife as we speak, so I should have some dyno results and pictures soon. If everything works out as planned, I should have some kits ready for sale by late August to early September... PM me for details if interested...

first of all if you're going to successfully build a sohc...take out the weak spots:
weak spot #1-headgasket. something about those fuckers just sucks. get a copper or metal multilayer headgasket. #2 connecting rods #3 hydraullic lifters. If you take care of all that shit, you can turbo it with no problem and put down 300whp fairly reliably on a daily driver. I have a fully built race head for SOHC's for sale, high performance cam, nismo cam gear, 5-angle valve grind, solid lifters (adjustable),PM me if you really want to do this.

But why ? Single cam's are horrible pieces of crap. Even in stock form the KA24DE is alot more reliable then the KA24E, just from seeing how much quicker the E's tend to get into the junkyard before the DE's my DE had 194k+ miles on it before i swapped it and it was still running (although it would puff out a little smoke sometimes on startup it was running nonethless). Bottom line , why mess with the single cam when the DE is very easy to find , more potent , and has much less weakpoints. Do as you please but to me the SOHC engine should have never even left the assembly line , it was probably a failed nissan design that they where going to use for boat anchors but decieded to put them in our usdm zenki s13's. Do as you please though, it's your car (just bare in mind that with the money you are going to be spending , you might as well just go ahead and swap a SR20 in their). I do not mean to be negative but it just seems like a very irrational and illogical idea.

and with the 3-4g's for an SR you can boost a KA reliably w/ more power so i dont see why youd throw away money on an SR, the only thing the dual cams (KA or SR) has on the KA-E is the high hp possibilities (like550-???) and that isnt what most daily drivers want, but this is an oppinion based debate so no one will convince the other but all i have to say is before dual cams became the hottest thing this side of Japan, everyone was saying the same thing about them and how unreliable they were. So the few brave souls will build what pleases them and we'll go from there

Funny isn't it?... I too was part of that crowd many years ago. I started with the SR20DET's back in '99 when a buddy and I dropped one into my '96 nissan hardbody pick-up (http://www.sromagazine.com/cars/profiles/truck/). My last project, with the help of some great (at the time experimental) tuning from Enthalpy, dynoed 397WHP & 380lbs. SR20DET's are well built, stout engines. Time for something different though... Up until 6 months ago, Id never driven a 240 with a KA. I'm converted! The torque curve on these engines is phenominal! Stock, with a little timing adjustment, mine dynoed 120WHP and 127lbs!!! I can only imagine the fun a T28 or T3 with moderate boost will bring. Actually, I should know here shortly... KA-E's are cheap, sometimes free, and have proven to be reliable. So go on and hate on the single slammer... I can pick em up cheaper that way...
