yours is probably cut, but you didnt cut it, or install the exhaust, so its not really an area you have much expertise in.
heres what the problem with mine was:
when i bought the car, it had a shitty aftermarket stock replacement, that aimed right at the bumper.
so this was my stock bumper hole. ( ) with the muffler sitting like this. ( O)O
the o's being the dual tips.
so, i cut that burnt shit out of the way, and put an oe exhaust on. it sits like this. (OO ) kinda off center, because i had to cut the hole from before.
so, now i get an ss autochrome, which sits awesome on a hatch.
on my car it sits like this. (O ) and i have to cut away some more to the left. and it rubs on the bumper, because it angles kinda high.
so, i sell that, and get an hks hi power.
it now sits like this. O( ). so i have to cut a shitload more to the left.
so, i cut a fucking huge hole, so nothing is even close. you can see my entire muffler, and hanger almost from the rear. it looks like shit. but, my garage doesnt smell like burning plastic, and i dont have to worry about looking like the scc project with a completely burnt bumper.
so, my next solution is, replace my bumper. cut it out for the hks.
get a test pipe lengthened, by about 2 inches, and have all of the hangers moved back.
hopefully that fixes it. stupid coupes. way awesomer by every detail, except that. : (
Are you're engine temperatures running any hotter than usual? because i've had an N1 on my hatch for about 50,000 miles/4-5years... and my bumper is fine Do you guys have spoilers or no? I'm thinking it's got to be a material/aerodynamic mix of problems. That should not happen to any car. I'd get a temperature gun, and see how hot the muffler is getting, otherwise...what about a heat-sheild that goes over the muffler and up under the rear (following above the muffler)? instead of that hideous metal plate on your back bumper? Just a temp solution to a bad problem.
