Will towing a 240 with a tow dolly hurt any part of the drivetrain, and should the rear wheels be on the dolly or the front wheels?

secure the front wheels by tying a rope around the steering wheel and locking it so the wheels stay straight (pinch the rope in the window. the put the back wheels onto the dolly. This way you don't get any oil starved components in the drivetrain.

Put the front wheels on first and then make sure you leave the car in neutral when its in tow and your good to go.

then the input shaft on the transmission doesn't get lubed and i've seen the front bearing go bad by towing them just 30 miles or so...its like running your motor with no oil in it. for short distances...its ok i guess...but more than 20 miles...id do it the safe way.

this is what i did......

load it on the front on the dolly and i dropped the back 1/2 of the driveshaft. don't drop it all, just the back 1/2 and you wont loose your tranny fluid.

Depends, if you have an auto, you MUST tow the car by the rear wheels. Since the pump for the tranny fluid isn't on and the fluids are not circulating, it will do harm to the car. If you have a 5 speed, you can tow it with the front wheels up, just make sure it's not in gear.

If you are towing with the rear wheels up, make sure you have the steering wheel secured.

ive never had a problem tow dollying my car to ocala. 5 speed trannies dont have fluid pumps, theyre a splash type oiling. youll be fine.

oh and its against the law to tow a car backwards
