I just bought this car yesterday and i was driving down the road and i heard this suspicious rattling noise, ttok it to my friend who used to be a mechanic and he said its either a connecting rod or a rod bearing, anyone know what kinda work this would involve and how much this would cost?

Why didn't you ask him if he is an ex-mechanic? I would say anywhere between 500-800 but that's just my educated guess.

Mine had that one time, and I was so lucky, because I took it to a mechanic, and I was flipping out saying it was the rods or something, and they took it in, called me an hour later and said it was fix?!!! wtf? fixed? ok? i rushed up there, the stupid alternator bolt had got loose somehow.... it was a $60 deal... why didnt i check that? but anyway, im glad i didnt need a new head! so check your alternator bolts?
I thought I had real serious problems too, like a rod knock. Turned out the bearing in the power steering pump crapped out and the shaft was making all the racket. Sometimes life lets you dodge the bullet.
