i don`t recall how a ka or sr or whatever you have is set up, but this may help you. i take it that bolt you snapped off is for the air bleed for the cooling system? if this is the case then the rad cap is lower then the bleed screw (i`ll assume) we had this issue on M-B 300E when we did evaps air would get in the system, be a bitch to bleed and you could hear it bubbling inside the system from the drivers seat. we had to raise just the front of the car on the lift, high enough so the rad cap was the highest point of the cooling system and let it run for a bit like that, to let the trapped air out. just a thought. i like i said i don`t remember how those engines/cooling systems are set up.

Usually if the gauge goes up and down its caused by air pockets in the system. I let mine idle for awhile with the radiator cap open and keep filling it up. Drive it around a few times, fill it up again, if needed, keep doing it until no more jumping from the gauge. I had that problem when flushing out my radiator.
