Default Looks I was given a SOHC Block

So the engine shop mated the '93 DOHC head to an unknown block. Everything was looking good until we found out the tensioner arm was 2" too short. The tensioner mounting holes were different too.
Everything from the DOHC timing kit worked except the arm. The tensioner arm from a SOHC timing kit worked. That set off the alarm.

I thought I had '95 block so I didn't visually inpsect it much.

(Block was purchased seperately as a package deal w/ Ross Pistons, Pauter Rods, Ferrea valves/retainers, intake/exhaust vavles for $1580 shipped).

Needless to say, I'm gonna have the block from the '93 DOHC machined now.

So my misfortune will be someones beneift. Spread the word that a decked/bored .20 over SOHC is for sale

Why get the other block machined? I thought the arm from the SOHC kit worked?

Did research on some folks trying to install DOHCs on the SOHC blocks. Not pretty. I'll cut my losses (relative 'cause I still saved a bunch on the pistons/rods/head gear).

Such issues are coolant/oil passages (do they match?), oil pump must be SOHC, distributor runs off engine, accessories?, etc.

true true. Save yourself a shitload of headaches. Hate to get everything dropped in the car and find out it will NEVER work and back at square one.

The front cover (from a SOHC oil pump assembly) and timing cover wouldn't even touch, an adaptor would have to be made.

For those in the future looking for doing a DOHC head on a SOHC block, here's step-by-step info w/ pictures: http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=102659

plus DOHC and SOHC exhaust ports are spaced differently, making the turbo manifold a no go for fitment.

jesse did you ever see this block that you ordered? its pretty simple to tell the blocks apart, the DOHC has the engine code stamped by the bellhousing...the SOHC has the stamping (by stamping i mean what you normally see on honda's with the B18C or B16A3 etc etc) between the two middle exhaust ports about even with the deck.

good luck on the DOHC block, the SOHC block DOHC head thing greaser said it ran good but wasnt worth the trouble...the front covers and accessories suck.
