Default KA Builders: Will Hire for Tech Support

Engine Lab called me last week stating they can't figure out the lower tensioner. "Something's not lining up."

All timing components are brand new OEM (except tensioner bolts), I'd like someone to speak w/ the engine builder to troubleshoot their problem (via phone or visit).

They told me to go over there to see but I won't be of much help above and beyond an FSM.

Let me know,

Jesse

PS - They also were looking for the upper timing chain guide, I gave them the info on that turd...

hmmm, thats odd. You ordered each part individually correct? Double check your invoice and packing slip to see if you ordered one thing and they shipped another. Or have them compare it with my factory timing set Jesse. Plus they ordered a timing set for me so they could compare yours against that one as well.

OK, here's the deal. The Nissan lower chain tensioner doesn't fit right. The aftermarket lower tensioner they ordered for Tyler doesn't fit right either.

They questioned if I had a different year head/block - I do. The head is off an S13 DOHC. The block is supposedly a 95. Is this disparity causing them a problem?

The engine is finished, they said they want me to come in and show me. They say they can make it work but should I be concerned that it's not installing by standard?

WTF! They never told me MINE didn't fit. My motor is all stock, same head and everything, so I dont think your head is the problem, the company making the fucking timing sets is screwing up.

Yes, be concerned. Take the parts to a Nissan dealership and ask them to compare it to another kit (which will need to be ordered I think).
The head/block issue IS NOT THE PROBLEM. Tyler could be right with the OEM defect theory. Or Engine Lab could be wrong with the installation. One or the other, and OEM defect seems more likely.

I'm pretty sure that there are revised guides (and bolts) in the nissan parts "book". I saw these parts mentioned on the courtesy parts website.

Just got off the phone with EL and mine does NOT have a problem. Apparently THERE ARE DIFFERENCES between the block Jesse is using and the s14 blocks.

Well, turns out they were talking about the tension arm, not the actual lower tensioner.

The arm removed from the S13 block was about 2" shorter than the one I need. Nissan sent me the same arm that was on the block (2" shorter).

John ordered a timing kit from TOPLINE - It's a SOHC Timing Kit and the arm was the perfect size!!!

So, all the other timing components worked from the DOHC kit except the arm. I was told the block was from a 95. The head and block are already mated.

IS THIS A SNAFU???

Jesse

PS - Gonna try to order that arm as a standalone piece, we'll see how that goes...
