I just want to know if 220.00 is a bad price...how much should i be spending on the se s14 lsd then?

Open differential you can see through the casing.. that's 100% not open diff.
$220 would be allright for a vlsd if it were in a carrier with output shafts. Now you need to find lsd output shafts, and then pay to have it installed. It will end up bieng more expensive in teh future. I wouldn't pay more than $125 for vlsd guts.
Aside from a hint of elitism, vlsd is bottom of the barrel.. and seldom worth paying to "upgrade" to. Had Dave not loaned me his.. I'd still be rocking my unlimited slip differential until I saved enough money for a better unit (helical for me.. mechanical for drifters).
