Random thoughts on chassis stiffining
Random thoughts on chassis stiffining
This is more of a brainstorm than anything, but here goes.
What are your thoughts/opinions on fabbing up a few plates w/tubular round stock chrome moly tubes to go between the subframe rails and the bodyseam? In my past tinkering with Mustangs (that have seperated subframe assemblies and need a welded in connector), the additional bracing helped out torsional stiffness quite a bit.
This isn't something I need or anything, I am just wondering what your thoughts are on the subject. It's extremely easy to do/fab and I haven't seen it yet.
Scroll down to the "extreme matrix chassis system to see the little picture for what I am talking about: http://www.springfieldmotorsport.com/newkenny.html

miatas have something simular to this...from what ive seen/heard/read/felt..makes the car uber stiff..more go kart feeling..alot of the miata guys that are hardcore auto/road course live and die by this
Judging from the look of the pics that Craig posted, those members would help a lot. The frame rails on the 240sx, are only really structurally connected to the rockers at the firewall and back seat. Both of these connections are pretty weak. The added weight is actually a bonus, as long as you can haul it around. The weight stays in the center of the car, and will lower the center of gravity of the car since it's only a few inches above the ground.

Which is why I was thinking of taking a sawzall to cophers, pirating/liberating the needed sections of the floorpan and making a template. It helped out alot on my mom's old (99) Mustang vert, but I really don't know if it is something the 240's need.
Time to bone up on some welding skillz.

I'd like to build a jig and make them, but I lack a welder and raw materials (ie everything). I've been thinking about this since I was into CRX's. It does seam welding one better and then some in my mind.
