Insurance
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has a 240sx new or old, or 300zx 90-96. I'm 15 now and turning 16 in a month and is anyone in here younger than 18 that has either of these cars because I'm not sure what the insurance will be.
I've got quotes online and they are b.s. Geico said it would be $6,500 for 6 months for a 300zx. I'm trying to find a true estiment on how much it will be per month. :bbb:
Thanks for your help, Greg

I can tell you right now, screw the 300ZX. With driver's ed and a good student discount, any insurance company will ring you up for around $1800 to $2500 for full coverage on an S14. If you're buying a car with insurance in mind, I'd get a 95 240sx with ABS. Insurance companies love seeing ABS and air bags, which means bigger discounts. Plus, the car is usually only worth around $4-6k.
Not under 18, but I do have a 93 240sx. State Farm, which is known to be on the expensive side, is $1600 a year with minimum coverage. That mean if an accident is my fault, insurance doesn't give me anything. Then again, the car only cost me $1300. I'm 24 with only a few dings and tickets on my record, and nothing within the last 3 years.
When I turn 25 next month, it goes down to $1000 per year.
My Scion tC is $1250 a year with full coverage, but I have that listed as a pleasure car (7k miles per year).
My WRX from 19-23 was averaged $1900 a year with full coverage, but different (cheaper) zone. Tampa area would have been $2400.

How much was your insurance when you were 16 or 17? I'm just wondering if insurance for a 95-98 240sx is gonna be more than $2500 with drivers ed and 3.5 GPA

Eek. Anything considered a sports car is going to rape you at that age. If you are hell bent on something RWD, you may want to consider a foxbody 4-banger Mustang. It isn't the fastest thing around, but insurance is dirt cheap even for the worst driving records. You can still tinker around with the 2.3 and make it a fun beater car until you reach an age where a sports car won't inflate your premium quite as much as it would now.
Also, regardless of what car you insure...your premium is pretty much going to be outrageous. The premium is not only based on your driving experience and record, but also your credit. At 16 I am willing to bet you have little to no credit, so this would also add to your high rates. If you pay the difference, would your parents add you to your policy? I'm willing to bet that would save you TONS of money.

Yeah I am going to be added to my parents policy but all I have is drivers ed and good grades...I'm hoping that will bring the price down. I have to pay for my car and all the insurance too(parents aint payin a dime).
Thanks for the info

Ah ok. Well that will definately make a difference. The quotes you get online should be substantially more than if you were added to your parents' policy. Best thing to do is have your parents call up the policy service dept at their insurance company and ask what the increase would be if they added you to the policy.
Another potential way for you and your parental units to save money is if they add you as an excluded driver to their vehicles on the policy. So when you get a quote, you may want to ask "what if" you are an excluded driver on your parents' vehicles.
