OK so I get home 2nite offa the interstate and i realise that my engine is clanking like a diesle engine so i turn off the car go inside get a flashlight come out look around nothing unusual so i start it up and try to look for something wrong when its running its just clacking away then it goes away...any ideas would be appriciated i'm LOST

Hopefully not a rod knock or something. Maybe the fan clutch too, my DOHC fan clutch would make random clanking at times and I had to replace it since it was wearing out.

 

try checking the oil

 

It's possible you have a bad knock sensor. Does the noise occur when the engine warms up a bit?

Have you made any changes to the cooling system, timing, or anything else recently?

 

i never heard of a DET sensor MAKEING a motor knock. =\

could be a timeing chain claking.... Happened to my old De////

 

is it when you're turning? could it be a suspension problem, like a worn ball joint, that clanks a lot. or are you sure that its comming from the engine? could be a chain tensioner- those have a tendancy of staying depressed and the chain slaps against the timing cover. if you can locate a side, or spot on the engine where you hear it the loudest...that would help. Us SOHCerz gotta stay united i just picked up another one...but a dually is goin in that one.
