Default Broken Stud

Went sliding around a parking lot a little while back, balded out my tires pretty good, went to go change them and broke a stud, All I get is spinning lugnut. Anyone have any tips or tricks on how to break the old one out so I can put a new one in. It has the stock 15: SE 7 Spoked rim on it.

i usually take out the other 3, and try to pry the wheel enough to hold the stud in.. and spin it with an impact wrench.
if you dont have an impact wrench, youre pretty much fucked.

if that doesnt work, i use an air hammer and chisel bit, and break the lugnut into pieces... if you dont have an air hammer, you are fucked once again.

good luck.

I had the same problem about a month ago. I bought a couple of real good drill bits, drilled a small hole in the middle of the lug nut, and then used progressively larger drill bits until the lug was drilled out. Time consuming but I had no damage to my rim.

Airtools are your friend. If you dont have access to them, take it to a mom and pop tire place and they will tap it out and replace the stud fairly reasonably. I had this done to my first s-13 when I was still in HS.

eh, not really, if the stud is spinning in the hub it isnt really an easy thing at all.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I put a 4-Way on it, and bent it back and forth until the metal gave way and broke the stud out. Ghetto, but effective

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

Check your hub and spindle to see if it's straight. Bending on the stud is very, very bad for those two parts. And if they're bent.. suspension geometry will be way off.
